ayos sir Mandrake!  ;D

All's well that ends well :).  Got a text message from Fil-Audio yesterday at about 10:45 that my unit was done and the cost was 1,090.00.  Went there at about 2:00pm and sure enough my AU-D907X Decade was singing again!  Danny told me he had to replace some transistors in the pre-drive section.  He obviously has had a lot of experience repairing vintage Sansui gear.

Sayang I had to leave that same afternoon for an out of town appointment.  Won't be back 'til Saturday evening so I haven't really had a chance to test the unit longer than the few minutes I heard it playing at Fil-Audio.  But I have no doubt that Danny did a good job and he did it much faster than I expected.  Hmmm... I wonder if he reads this forum, or is even a member?? ;D

So to all of you vintage Sansui (and maybe other brands?) owners out there, there are at least two of us PDVD members who have had recent, good experiences with Fil-Audio.  And if you add to that what Lord Foo has said, I guess this is one service center that knows what they're doing.

Hi to all. Mga masters tanong ko lang po kung ok na ba ung price na 2.3k para sa vintage amp na sansui AU-7500? Nakakita kasi ako sa isang surplus shop malapit dito sa amin. any comments on this amp? Is it worth it? Thanks. :)

Hi Squidball :),

Have not seen or familiar with the model.
But it seems, the 'pedigree' is same as mine AU-9500, some features may be retained or just removed.
The price is reasonable. Just check the conditions: cosmetics of panel, back printing, housing, etc.
Importantly, check the working conditions.
If all things considered, its now your call ;).
Post the pics once you get it...

Thanks dana for the reply  :). yup the external condition is ok the knobs are still intact and complete. But the insides it looks very dirty (a sign thats not yet repaired yet. I think ???). Havent auditioned it yet. The store only allows power on test only. Is there a way to know it if is still ok by just power on test only?

if i were you, i will not buy the unit. who knows what problems are lurking inside if they will not even let you test the unit.  hanap ka na lang sa pier.  :)

Dana: 3 pairs of speaker outs? :o Wala pa akong nakitang ganyan.  That deserves a look-see.  Will text you pag nagka-oras ako.  Sent you pm with my mobile also.

Parasmi: Thank you brod :).  Kundi dahil sa iyo di ko malalaman about Fil-Audio.

Squidball: I agree with sir Narayan.  If they won't even let you audition it malabo yan.  Power up test doesn't really tell you very much about the condition of the amp.

sir squidball,

agree ako kina sirs narayan at mandrake.

pero kung top of the line (totl) model- gaya ng aud907xdecade ni mandrake; nasa "bagsakan" ka, may kilala technician (in case repair is needed) at may extra cash- baka pwede ka sumugal.  ::)

Hi Squidball :),

Buying a surplus amp is really a 'lakasan ng loob' thing.
The mere fact that its even a vintage makes it worst.
Kaya lang, pag nahilig ka talaga sa bisyo na ito, lust will prevail.
I suggest u insist to audition the unit by bringing along your own source cd player and set of speakers maybe.
Test for a few minutes para kahit papaano ma chek...
Problems may really manifest after some time (but you can pray too ;))
Anyway, help is around the corner, like FIl Audio (good fdbk, yet havent tried them yet)
Its just that there is really something nice about a vintage audio gear, maybe character and the sparkling big knobs and toggles...
Who knows, with this purchase, will signal the start of a love affair for this kind of hobby...
Its really a gamble...IMHO ::)
Its up to u....
Goodluck!

Sir Mandrake,

Yes, my AU-9500 has three pairs of speaker outs. I used the A+B combination for my sala set-up and A+C set-up, if threre are family gatherings in the house to power up a remote pair of speakers (C) at the garden.
Cge, just give me a call...I will be available this weekend, plan to have my leave starting this Friday...pachek rin kidney stones....hehehe

Thanks Dana for the reply. :) I've managed to buy a Luxman SQ 707 amp from the surplus store near our place for only 1.3k. I've read here that luxman amps are a good buy. So I took the gamble and bought the amp w/o auditioning it. Just did the power test. Thankfully it's working. Any info on this amp? Can't seem to find any info on this amp. Thanks.  :)

that's a good amp, late '60s model. your price is comparatively low -- that unit should sell at least P2.5K. the specs are a bit low, 16 or 18wpc if i could still recall my unit back in early '80s. the rating is conservative, thus it would hold its own against '80s to new production amps rated at 50wpc. use efficient speakers, preferably over 90db/watt. vintage/surplus speakers rated from 20 to 50 watts would be ideal, kahit gaano kalaki, 4 to 16 ohms walang problema. also, one weakness of '60s to '70s amps are capacitors drying up by now -- that would result in distortion. recapping could be an option, but if it's still working well, leave it as-is.

Thanks sir sandawa for the info. So this is a late 60's amp. medyo may distortion nga during start up. After a while pag medyo uminit na siya ok na ung sound nya. Btw, sir saan kaya magandang magparecap nitong amp? Any suggestions? Thanks. :)

Hi Squidball :),

It seems you have nice stuff of surplas amps out there. Also, they also sell it cheap...
Whatever happened  to Sansui AU-7500?I saw someone post & selling it somewhere here, around 5K?.
Saw also its picture. Basically same as my AU9500, i mean the front panel...

Best Regards...

Sir Dana the Sansui AU-7500 is still there. Apparently the shop owners there dosen't realize the value of the amps that they have, (Imagine, a luxman amp for only 1.3K) yun nga lang may added risk n no testing, as-is where-is ang condition. It's really a gamble. But this is one gamble I wouldn't mind taking. Sana may extra cash pa akong pambili.  :'(

AU-7500 is about 30 to 40wpc conservative rating, should be equivalent to new production amps rated at 50 to 70wpc. It was built early '70s and patterned after US MacIntosh amps. If it works well and almost mint, I'll probably pay as high as P4K for it.

Still selling at an equivalent of $250 used in good condition at Hifido -- Japan (http://www.hifido.co.jp/indexe.html) and at an average of $100 in Yahoo Japan auctions.
