Dear all,

I was just wondering who bought the Pioneer A-900 located at Little Chatty's last Saturday AM. It was raining pretty hard that morning. What a brave soul.

Was told of this by Mark a few days prior and was very curious how it sounded. However, I was tied up with work and unable to visit the shop. Was only able to make reservation up to Wed 1pm but did not show up on the opportune time.

To the person who bought it, how does it sound?

I was in Pier last saturday, bought a Denon CD Player. I just sold my Musical Fidelity Elektra a couple of weeks ago and Ive been using my Pioneer DVD as my transport. Anyway this CDP I chanced upon is heavily built, weighs about 2x a regular CD Player and the sound . .WOW!  It can go head to head with my previous Musical Fidelity.

i was also there last saturday with my kumpare and kumare, nagpasama sila sa 'kin bumili ng tv, we were there at around 11:30am to 12:30pm, then kumain kami saglit sa binondo and balik ng mga 2pm to pickup the tv, kay cris kami bumili... sayang di tayo nagkita-kita, hehehe ;)

Anyway, sarap mag-venture dun last saturday, umuulan pa :D

Para hindi OT...
i saw a lot of amplifiers na ok sa little chatty, and even saw a pioneer DTS receiver dun sa loob malapit sa mga tv stalls, selling for 8K, 7.5K last price daw, makinis at gold finish. Unfortunately, hindi ko kinuha, ala budget and iba kasi ang hinahanap ko e :)

Hi Sirs,

I was at our favorite mall last Wed to have one of my amp repaired. I saw a Pioneer amp M-73. I was contemplating to get it but it was not yet in my budget. Hello price of 6K with 100V 500W transformer included.

Way overpriced. At 75,000 yen original price, Pioneer M-73 should be retailed (based on comparable local sales of Japan-standard used units ) from P3K to P3.5K. That jibes with the average auction price for a used unit in Japan for this unit, which is roughly 8,000 yen or about $70.

Hi Sir,

Thanks for the valued input. Mataas pa pala yung muntik na tawad ko at Php4K.  So dapat pala 4K inclusive of the Xformer.

I think the free transformer is a generic type not the branded ones. I was once offered at the Pier a transformer with claimed rating of 500 watts and 100 volts at P500. I thought it was too inexpensive (branded 500-watt transformers were selling at P1.2K back then) and too light for such rating. Also when we measured the output, it came out 115 volts not 100 volts -- well, in Manila, it's dependent on location -- but I still don't trust those generic Pier transformers.

if what i read on the catalogue is right, there are two power transformers inside the amp, therefore, it is possible to wire their primary windings in series so you can plug them in direct...if your meralco does not exceed 220 volts, it is highly possible to do this..

even at 4k i will consider it a good buy.... ;D
That's OK, you can like or dislike anything you choose. That's the wonderful thing about the freedom

Hi Sirs,

Thanks for the inputs and advise. Yes the transformer are the red (I suppose pier DIY) ones which they often sell here together with the surplus TV's, I agree might not be really 500watts. Wala na rin siguro ito by the time I return there.

thanks sir Tony, I just noticed that its hard to pair it to high sensitivty spkrs(90db up).
maybe its because this amp is really powerful.
Based on the specs that I read on the net it is 100W/channel @ 8ohms

I just bought a Pioneer Private Pro A-X730 integrated amp.  It has a coaxial and optical inputs.  Does anyone know the quality of the built in DACs?  I already did a search and can't find any info about the amp.

Thanks.

That's a rare model for the Private A-X series, which is more like Pioneer's low-priced line. Here's a reference for used pricing (the values are in yen) of its nearest model, Private A-X740: http://yackdb.s138.xrea.com/auview.php?m=A-X740
