rodel5, mukhang para saiyo talaga unit na yan ah!  ;D I was tempted narin talaga kunin yan because sinilip ko ng lighter flashlight un loob at orig pa mga output transistor nyan but wasn't ready to buy that time, nag paayos lang ako ng TV.  :-\  Congrats bro.

Medyo nakabawi rin naman ako, I got a mint Onkyo A-817EX from a friend at medyo mataas lang ng konti price compared sa pier, though, 100v din. Sobra ganda ng match sa 9.1. Before sa dati kong intg. amp, I still need a sub to get good bass from the 9.1 but nung match ko na sa Onkyo, parang naging floorstand yung 9.1 with credible bass, without the sub!!  :o  It also confirmed my theory that wharf speakers really need good high current amp to perform their best.  :D

just a samll backgrounder, your amp was born in an era where "dual mono" construction was a fad in japan, many other amp makers did this, i am talking about dual power supplies and dual transformers....that was a good era....treasure your amp. wala na lalabas pa na kagaya nyan... ;D

Yes. The Denon POA-1001s, not my 1003 however, are the true dual-mono blocks: two separate mono power amps, two separate housings joined by a common faceplate. Each amp has four units of 22,000uF (63v) of power storage (capacitors), or 44,000uF per channel (88,000uF per amp). That's one reason why I'm now using two POA-1001s to biamp my JBL 4430 monitors: four mono blocks to drive the two big horns and and the two 15-inch woofers. I bought them all from Davao's surplus market, in good working condition, and comparatively cheap. Photos below (the white residues on the casings were unwiped Pledge which I use as cleaner):

::) All I can say is naging Onkyo Integra believer na ako since using this amp. Before kasi I had mediocre experience with Onkyo amps but those were not Integras, just standard Onkyo's. But this model really surprised me and as they say, "jaw dropping" . :D
My initial impressions are a very wide and deep soundstage with a very good imaging. Very quiet and clean kaya I can pinpoint each instrument and hear subtle sounds. The character of the amp is on the warm side with neutral and flat frequency. Actually, medyo laidback yung highs (compared to a tube pre-amp/ss poweramp combi) but more musical for me.
I read somewhere that this 817EX has the same character with the 817XX but is different from the 817RS. Medyo boomy at pronounced ang high nang RS daw.
I also got a Marantz/BMB D-3 integrated amp which also surprised me a lot with its musicality since, this amp was really intended for videoke!  ??? I will post some pics to show it. Very macho sya kasi it uses the chasis/heatsink of Marantz Esotec PM-4 and also very hefty (read: super heavy).  ;D

Just to confirm the previous post based on my experience. The ongoing retail price for surplus amps here in Davao where I live is wattage consumption at the back multiplied by 20. The retailer may quote a higher price but after haggling, you'd likely get the "times 20" price, or even lower. For instance, the Onkyo 817 series sells here at a range of P3.5K to P4.5K depending on the model and the unit's condition.

Yesterday I went home with a new production gold-toned JVC amp (AX-V1), which is small but looks and weighs awesome for its size. The wattage at the back says 175, so my friendly trader gave it to me at P3.5K. Plus, I also picked up a mint-condition Technics SB-7000 linear phase speakers (OT).

Here's a tip, again, for those hunting for high-quality vintage Japanese hifi:

1. If you want to know where your target equipment is placed among hifi models sold during its time, as reflected in its original retail price, then check these websites:

http://www.audio-heritage.jp/
http://www.niji.or.jp/home/k-nisi/index.html

Translate using Babelfish: http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/
The audio-heritage site provides only basic info such as original price and description. The niji site provides the website owner's favorite vintage models and his commentary.

2. If you want to know which of the vintage models are highly regarded by Japanese audiophiles, as reflected in high resale price, then check these sites:

http://www.hifido.co.jp/sold/indexe.html
http://yackdb.s138.xrea.com/htmlmb/index.html

In the hifido site, all you need to do is type your equipment model number for previous transactions data to come out. If your equipment is not listed in hifido, it is likely a minor model and not highly marketable in the Japanese used market. For the yackd site, which is more comprehensive, click on the letter that starts your equipment model code and search for the exact model number. Click again and a list of the most recent auctions completed will then come out.

The hifido data is generally better since it provides prices for good-condition units, those they sell in their outlets all over Japan. The yackdb data are from Yahoo Japan auctions and could include junks or defective units. Sometimes the items listed are mere user's manuals and not the actual units.

In the '80s and '90s, I was hooked mainly on British and US equipment. Nowadays, I'm crazy over these vintage Japanese gems. Most Japanese high-end hifi units were not sold in US and European markets and that's the reason why American and European audiophiles are willing to pay high prices for these vintage equipment. One of the emerging businesses in Tokyo nowadays is forwarding of vintage hifi since foreign audio enthusiasts are willing to absorb the high cost of importing these "junks." (Europeans who are members of Audio Karma said the total cost of an imported unit is about twice the price quoted in Hifi Do.)

Some minor problem sa balance and volume knobs, Already brought it to Mr. Andrew Yap for repair courtesy of Oweida. pero i think palitin na din some of the capacitors.

I started googling sa internet regarding this amp. and i think naka jackpot ako  ;D.  Anyway here's the link regarding the amp:

This is awesome! Did you buy your a607 MOS Limited in Japan, or was it forwarded here? This would be very expensive if bought thru Hifido; could be over a thousand dollars even without  forwarding charges and tariffs. Used Sansui's prices, especially the alpha series, in Japan have doubled since last year due to high demand from Europeans I was told.

In England, France and Germany, very expensive 100-volt transformers are now available from audiophile shops, unlike before. I actually offered to send locally made and cheaper 240 to 100v transformers there but my friends found a supplier that could provide such transformers at three times our local price. That would even up cost of sending 100v Panther transformers when forwarding charges are inputted.

Many European audiophiles are now buying Japanese vintage hifi thru Hifido's forwarding firm (They've put up one last year -- I remember they sent me an offer for their services a couple of months back).

Take good care of your a607. Don't forget to use a dedicated 100-volt transformer on your unit. Also monitor your line's voltage regularly.

I don't know where to buy used power amps there in Manila. Most of my power amps were bought through Japanese importer contacts at surplus prices here in Davao. I bought them low but if we'd be realistic, these power amps should be be selling in the local market four times my acquisition cost, or even more based on Hifido prices.

Thus, a dual mono block Denon POA-1001 I mentioned in an earlier post sold at say P15K would still be reasonable. I have two POA-1001s and one POA-1003, or 3 similar power amps just like what you need, but I have no plan of selling them. Maybe the POA-1003 later, since it's the odd unit of the three but it had to be picked up here in Davao. It weighs over 20 kgs. by the way.

So, you're based in Paris? Are you a Filipino? If so, you could buy Sansui alpha 607 series here in the Philippines a lot cheaper if you have importer contacts. Of course the a607 Mos Limited is special, but I've seen gold-colored a607XR and MR here in Davao early this year being sold at P6K ($150) each. Alpha 907s rarely come in but you'll see a707s once in a while. A week ago, there was an a707i here in Davao quoted at P7.5K.

By the way, I currently own an original a907 and an a907iMos Limited plus an AU-X11, all black. They're in a league of their own. There are many others in this forum who own Sansui alpha series amps, mostly 607s and 707s.
