have no fear..... :)

that IC contains a darlington pair, bias diodes and resistors..Sanyo and SANKEN makes these hybrids, they contain transistor chips and diodes and resistors in what is called thick film technology) .......in the event of failure and no replacement is found...you can always convert your amp to discrete transistors....it can be done...i have done several conversions before...... ;D

Wow, Tony your the man :).

That's OK, you can like or dislike anything you choose. That's the wonderful thing about the freedom

Just to alert you guys, some upscale gear have been arriving here in Davao these past months although just a fraction of the usual volume of shipments 5 years ago. Check out your friendly traders there at the Pier. Ask those guys at Chatty's. Malamang meron din dyan, baka nakatago lang. Today, a trader here in Davao told me of two alpha 907s (iMos-Ltd., and 907L-Extra) that arrived last week and sold immediately to some guys (nakalimutan akong tawagan sa bilis ng mga pangyayari!).

Since last week, 2 pieces of Onkyo Integra 927s are displayed in one shop here at P6K each:
http://www.audio-heritage.jp/ONKYO/amp/integraa-927.html

Anyway, if I get lucky, I would have a Luxman SQ-38 Signature (valve integrated) this weekend.

Three months ago, I got a Sansui AV-9500, the last top of the line Sansui AV amplifier:
http://www.audio-heritage.jp/SANSUI/amp/av-9500dsp.html

Last month, I was able to buy a Yamaha C-6/B-6 preamp/power combo:
http://www.audio-heritage.jp/YAMAHA/amp/c-6.html
http://www.audio-heritage.jp/YAMAHA/amp/b-6.html

Last week, I got this rare and amazing Diatone DS-S3 with 4-inch downfiring woofer that pounds like a 10-incher:
http://www.audio-heritage.jp/DIATONE/diatoneds/ds-s3.html

I'm getting excited again.

Postscript:

Dana,

Wala, hindi na-deliver ang SQ38 Signature -- medyo mataas din ang presyo P24K (but selling at $1,200 in Japan now) -- ang sabi ko sa trader babayaran ko kung walang hum na maririnig after two hours the amp was on and playing one watt per channel. Hindi dumating last weekend, that means merong hum, which is the usual problem among tube amps. I can't stand even a small amount of hum since I've heard good tube amps abroad without any hum. My current Sansui AU-70 has no hum. My Dad's Radford and Dynaco amps back in the '60s have no hums and he told me when I was starting never to buy any tube amp with a hum.

Hi Terii,

So you're also into hoarding Sansui's best amps? I'm not lucky enough to get those a907s that drifted in the city where I live. Had I got those two, I would have three different models of alpha 907s (2 units of imos limited) now plus an AU-XII, an AV-9500DSP, an AU-D907F and an AU-70 (tube). I'm luckier though with good quality vintage Yamaha power amps. I now have the C4/B4 combination; the B3 (VFET); and the C6/B6 combination. I'm not a big Yamaha fan but they seem to come easily to me.

Terii,

So you got your a607NRAII from HifiDo?

I was searching for an email from an American guy who operates a forwarding company in Tokyo. He once offered his services to me in bidding for items in Japan's auction sites. Unfortunately, I couldn't find his address. Anyway, I googled and what I got are these two sites:

http://www.japantoy.biz/
http://www.aazumatrading.com/yahoo-auction-japan/index.php

Do you have experience with any of these two? My acquisitions are currently dependent on my trader-friends here in southern Philippines and I'm planning to buy directly from Japanese sources for small hifi items one of these days.

Hi Sandawa

the NRA2 which was sold on hifido, yes I am the buyer, since the beginning of the year there were 3 NRA2 on sale they were already booked
of the announcement of hifido on its site, the last when I saw the announcement that more than a week it is selling, I immediately validated my purchase, since I already hifido purchased from, they confirmed the purchase
on the two sites, I did not have had business with
should I inquire about them
it may be interesting for bids yahoo auction

Hi Southpeak
thank you, for the high-end and more Japanese are reserved for the domestic market I prefer to buy directly in Japan as in Europe it is very rare as the Philippines, I take the time, day or the Japanese will understand that the surplus may bring many money and there is a strong demand from collectors of the world, prices will blaze

Hi Terii,

The Sansui Anniversary amp would be awesome but that would probably cost up to $4,000 including forwarding charge. Its weight is about 35 kgs -- like those old school Krells -- if I'm not mistaken.

wahahaha. naunahan ako ng Journalist.
Lol. Nah. its not the Fabulous 1980...lol. that would be Fabulouser. Still, i feel like a fat contented cow right now. I seldom am able to get TOP of the Line models unlike you guys. I've missed out several times on sansui 9090's and AUD 907's. This is my first TOTL Pioneer Amp.

I have an SA9900 hooked up right now with a pair of HPM100s. That's the pioneer integrated with macho rack handles at the back and pilot lamp around the volume dial. It may have come from the Pier but i got it from a neighborhood thrift shop and its already set to 220 volts. But then again it says 120/220 at the back. A japanese home unit that will pass through the Pier surplus stores would say 100v right?

I seem to have seen posts about some PDVD members who own this model.

It's good this thread has not driven up the prices of good surplus hifi in Manila, Cebu or Davao. We're very lucky to have those inexpensive Japanese vintage gear here. As Terii said, in Europe, they have to order them from Japan at high price. I've also been told the price of surplus Jap equipment in Shanghai is now way over the price of comparable brand new Chinese-made unit.

In Thailand, the price for used Jap hifi approximates that of brand new. Here's a link from a shop in Bangkok (the figures are in Thai baht): http://www.vintage-audioshop.com/product.index?lang=th

An Onkyo M-506 power amp, sold here at P5k - P8K, is being quoted at an equivalent of P25K in that shop. Kenwood 990 CDP, which is sold here at about P2K-P3K, is quoted at roughly P14K.

BTW, I got my Luxman SQ-38 last night. It was not the Signature model I was expecting. Instead, what was delivered was an FD Mark II model. I have yet to fire it up today since I had to clean its innards first. The 12 valves are complete -- 4 big ones and 8 small ones. I was told it has a problem, but that's okay, I got it for half a day's pay, anyway.

Here's how it looks:

Wow so many exchanges back and forth.

Time to visit the Pier when my budget would allow me to.

Sir Sandawa,

Where were you able to get an M-506 power amp at 5K? I bought mine for 8K.

I saw at least 4 units of Onkyo M-506 series sold here in Davao these past three years with price tags ranging from P5k to P6.5k. I should have bought one or two units  but the last one in mint condition I haggled for P5k -- on Narayan's behalf I think -- had a problem (power relay would activate every 5 minutes even when amp isn't hot), so I told the trader we'd pass. I was able to buy its preamp though -- P-306 -- at P1.5K. Narayan said I could keep the preamp if I like it, thus, I did not send it to him.

Nabuhay na naman ang thread.
The vintage gear hunters are on the prowl again ha ;D.
I see the Whos Who of vintage gears again posting ;D ;D ;D
Congrats Lord Foo on your latest TOTL Pioneer SA9900.
For the pioneers, the most I could have now are the twin brothers SA8800II(pareho tayo Joey...) & SA800 ...no luck with your kind of toys...
Maganda yata magkaron ng Vintage SS Meet/EB.
Keep on hunting and posting guys :D

Btw, any of you guys also into Reel to Reel...i have some reel tapes, no player to try it with...
Im tempted...there is an AKAI 360D whispering to my ear, "come to papa.." ;D...buti na lang alang budget...

Ive seen those real to real way back 2006 from a friend who's  buy & selling. I'm amaze from the sound they produce. 8 track pa yata yung gamit niya or 4 track yun. its a silver pioneer din but forgot the model. also some akai and teac.

i know what you mean...experienced that static/popcorn  noise in SA8800.
Replaced some problematic leaky transistors in the preamp driver board.
Back to normal and toys are healthy again ;D
