Best response on this silly subject:

Quote
Larry Bird on whether current Olympic team could beat Dream Team: "They probably could. I haven't played in 20 years and we're all old now."

can the 1992 version of MJ and Pippen shut down this year's version of Lebron?

i'd say yes. lebron has been shown to have been stopped a number of times in his career.

Michael Jordan scored in double digits in all but one game as a Chicago Bull out of 1,109 total games. LeBron James has 9 single digit scoring performances already.

Kobe :  "The fact is, they have [Patrick] Ewing and [David] Robinson and those big guys, it's tough. If you're asking me, 'Can you beat them one game?' Hell yeah, we can beat them in one game. You didn't ask me if we could beat them in a 7-game series. In one game, we can beat them. No question about it."

Kobe is being Kobe.  He's such a competitor and he wants to win.  Jordan should realize this by now.  Why the overreaction MJ? And besides, if you paid attention to what Kobe said, he just said he can beat them in a game, not in a 7 game series.  So he still respects the Dream Team and believes he couldn't really beat them in a real series.  But one game?  Surely.

I think the better reaction of Jordan should've been :  Hell yeah, that's a good attitude from Kobe.  Basketball has evolved since 1992 and it's good if these guys can beat us.

But knowing Jordan, talagang pumapatol yan.  Di rin papatalo tulad ni Kobe.  But sus naman, MJ what have you got to lose? You have nothing to prove.  You're the greatest basketball player ever. Pagbigyan mo na si Kobe.  The guy wants to win for team USA, for cryin out loud.

Kobe is a bad dog.  Tama lang sagot nya kay MJ :  So what?  You know I'm a bad mother%^&**.

full article :  http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/eye-on-basketball/19574539/kobe-bryant-responds-to-michael-jordans-trash-talk-he-knows-im-a-bad-motherexpletive

LOL on Kobe back-pedaling on what he said since he got caught shooting his mouth off.   :D  In other words palusot na lang.

Kobe knew what he was saying.  He dissed the Dream Team as being too old and at the the tail end of their careers.  Could it be that Bird, MJ, Sir Charles, Pippen, etc... just misunderstood him?   ;D

I would say yes to that as well.  MJ and Pippen can take turns guarding Lebron.  The key would be to stick to Lebron once he crosses half-court.  Just like what they did to poor Kukoc.   :D  Stick to him like a leech!

Yes, if Lebron will play with cramps.

Lebron, with upgrades - the one we saw in the Heat OKC Finals?  Unstoppable.

Maybe Lebron the Cavs choker, pwede pa.

OKC didn't have a defensive player even near the league of MJ and Pip's defensive prowess. but i will just look forward to this season and see how unstoppable lebron really is

Remember, Lebron hasn't peaked yet.  We haven't seen his full arsenal.  Just imagine if this guy has reached his full potential and maturity as a player.  Scary ::)

i think the 2008 ''Redeem Team'' (+ 2012 version of Durant and - Boozer) can challenge the 1992 Dream Team

take note: i said challenge, not beat. ;) this year's USA team has gaping holes at 5 and 4.

Barkley and Malone would annihilate Kevin Love, Anthony Davis/Blake Griffin

Tyson Chandler against Ewing and David Robinson? oh please..  ;D

after 1992, there hasn't been a US basketball olympic team as dominating as the Dream Team. you need to pick players in their primes from the 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012 US olympic rosters and assemble a team that can challenge the 1992 squad.

ayoko din sa line-up ngayon kasi nandun sila Griffin (highlights lang alam nito e),Westbrook (baka magbuhaya pa din sya),

Not really agree with this. If you were able to watch the previous Olympic games,  Westbrook really contributed his skills. He was shooting 3s, driving to the hoop with energy and doing just about everything that Coach K asked him to. Really deserving to be a part of this year's squad based on his previous Olympic Gold experience.

si Westbrick pwede pa siguro

as for Griffin? the only contribution he can give is highlight reels and dunk offs during the US team's practice sessions.

Dear MJ,

Stop talking to the media about the Dream Team 20 years ago and start worrying about fixing the front office and front court in your crappy Charlotte Bobcats. lol.

kung pwede maglaban ang 1992 Dream Team vs. the 2008 Redeem Team (with a prime KD and - Boozer)

can Kobe handle the 1-2 perimeter defensive punch of Jordan and Pippen?

anything wrong with that?

ok, if you insist.. take out prime KD on that team and retain softie Boozer.

;)

sabi nga din ni sir mattia, pwede pa daw siguro i-shut down si Lebron ni Jordan and Pippen, pero the Cavs choker version nga lang. just for fun lang, we can (at least in our imaginations) tweak teams here and there.

Magic Johnson: ’08 Redeem Team No Match for ’92 Dream Team

http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2011/08/magic-johnson-08-redeem-team-no-match-for-92-dream-team/

kung winning margin vs. international competition lang ang usapan, you have to consider the level of competition

back in 1992, international teams mostly sucked. in the last decade or so, international teams (Spain, Argentina, etc.) played at a different level compared to the likes of Croatia circa 1992.

if the Dream Team went up against the modern day versions of Spain, Argentina, etc. that 40+ winning margin might have gone down to let's say 30 - 20+ points (with 20+ being the minimum)

why are old men so bitter? lol. everything is blown out of proportion in most forums regarding this dream team debacle.

kobe was asked a simple question, "would you win a game against the dream team?"

kobe as known in the whole world as a competitive athlete would obviously say "yes!"

alangan sabihin nya "we suck compared to them", "we will not win", etc. it does not make sense.

and lastly kobe is always known to be a cocky SOB. ;D and as he said a bad mothaf#$a. everyone just need to chill out. hehe.

addendum to my previous post

some of the international teams that went up against the 1992 Dream Team..

nagpapa picture taking pa with their opponents :D ;D

in the last few years, nawala na ang takot ng mga international teams against Team USA

and as he said a bad mothaf#$a.

oo nga naman, Kobe isn't the type who would kiss another player or team's @ss

may attitude din kasi si MJ and most definitely Barkley kaya ganyan ang reaction nila sa sinabi ni Kobe

on pure basketball skills alone, most of us admire them. but if you'll read tons of articles about their personal lives, MJ isn't exactly a saint by all means. si Barkley matagal na natin alam na bad mothaf#$a yan. ang alam ko, most of the people behind the Dream Team basketball program were hesitant at first to include him in the team because of his attitude. remember that elbow he unleashed on that poor Angolan player? ;D

saw this in another forum earlier...

create a team from any US olympic or qualifying team which doesn't include original members of the Dream Team.

1992 onwards lang dapat, so no chance in hell you can select the likes of Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell or Jerry West.

:D

____________________________________________________________________________________

NOTE: the 1996 team which won the gold in Atlanta, Georgia USA (marketed as Dream Team III, had 5 original members of the original Dream Team - Pippen, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Robinson)

____________________________________________________________________________________

here's mine..

C - Shaq (1996), Olajuwon (1996)
PF - Garnett (2000), Duncan (2004)
SF - Lebron (2012), Grant Hill (1996), Durant (2012)
PG - Anfernee Hardaway (1996), Jason Kidd (2000)
SG - Kobe (2008), Dwyane Wade (2008), Allan Houston (2000)

i don't have pure shooters in the mold of Bird and Mullin though

but i think i have enough perimeter guys who can go up against the likes of MJ, Pippen, Drexler, and Magic

;D

I believe the question the reporter asked Kobe was  "How would your current team do against the Dream Team?"

His answer was  he did admit the Dream Team had more size but were a lot older as well as at the end of their careers so yeah they could pull it out....and a bit of a smirk at the end.  So it certainly connotes a different meaning than winning a single game against the Dream Team.
