Yeah, I have a DVD of Magic and I never get tired watching it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Jawo was influenced by a certain player named Pete Maravich a.k.a Pistol Pete.  Even his jersey number 7 was Pete's number with Utah Jazz.  Jawo's back dribble, no look passes and behind the back antics all resemble that of Pistol Pete's.  See this video clip of Pistol Pete's highlight moves:

Top ten plays of Pistol Pete.  Kahit yun baseball pass ni Jawo nung Ginebra days e parang kay Pistol Pete:

Got to check the updated NBA team salary numbers ......

With the recent acquisition of Dwight Howard, The LAKERS payroll is now approximately at $100M (!) ...... roughly, $18M more than their nearest salary competitor, the NETS.

That $18M difference is roughly the price for 1-max contract (superstar) & 1-mini-mid-level contract (solid vet).

Like I said, no CBA can ever prevent any team from over-spending .... just have to live with the luxury taxes - which will amount to $30M for the LAKERS after this season.

Once the new-CBA tax rates kicks in next season ..... it'll be $80M+ luxury tax for the LAKERS.

Staggering numbers ...... sad day for overall league parity, but it'll add to more great story-lines for the upcoming season.

As Mitch Kupchak said about Jerry Buss' philosophy, between money and banner, Buss will go for the banner.

This Laker team is really Hollywood. Just when you thought that Miami and Lebron are the biggest story here comes LA with Nash and Howard, upstaging everyone and again back in the limelight.

Its gonna be quite a season for LA,..! Oh yeah,..!

ok naman yung nangyari sa lockout kasi matutulungan na mga small market teams. yung pera na makukuha sa luxury tax paghahatian ng mga teams ng NBA.

Battier and Allen may not be consistent. Bosh not so dominating. They need a strong and tall center player.

Lakers is complete and well built this coming season.  Its going to be tough for Miami or OKC to match.

But would it be enough?  Small market teams still rely on gate receipts, arena advertisements and endorsements, tv deals, etc.  Relying heavily on luxury tax shares will not sustain in maintaining NBA teams.

Well I guess only for rebounds, sa Offense Miami don't need any tall center.

E.g.

Wade   - Nash
Allen    - Kobe
Battier - WP
Lebron - Gasol
Bosh    - D12

Nash will be destroyed by wade, kobe probably will be gassed by chasing allen and Lebron is Lebron, Bosh will just draw D12 out of the Paint into the 3pt line most probably and clear the way for Wade and Lebron slashing.

^ LA vs. OKC

Perkins can guard D12...

Durant is still the Problem. LA is "complete" in paper, but in reality, as I see it, they don't have any answer for Durant. <-- parang kay Lebron din sa Mia + a Healthy Wade.

right now, hindi pa siguro but by 2014 magkick-in na yung full effect nung bagong CBA. magiging 4:1 na kasi ang babayaran ng mga over the cap team meaning for every dollar that they go over $4 ang ibabayad nila for luxury tax. yun naman ang problema ng mga teams bago maglock-out. i don't think the team owners would agree on those terms if it were not enough.

Hehe, exactly pre .....

Though to be fair to Stern & the new CBA - many teams have actually scrimped on new contracts (e.g. one-year contracts and/or one-year w/ team option for 2nd year) and have started cutting salaries now, just in time for the punishing new tax rates after the 2013 season.

Of course, there will always be exceptions like the LAKERS & HEAT who have very active championship windows ..... NETS, who wants to make an immediate impact and corner NY market share.

But by that time, most save for 1 or 2 teams would avoid luxury tax.  Most teams right now are doing that and not wait for 2014.  By that time wala na masyado lalagpas sa cap.  So liliit na rin yun paghahatian na luxury tax.  Still not enough to pay for players'payroll, arena rental, team employees, and other expenses.  Luxury tax money will not turn in a profit let alone mag break even.

The luxury tax was never designed to be just compensation for teams not tilting the parity bar ..... in a way, it's a token to everyone else who operates under the salary-cap limits.

It's still significant money (ex. LAKERS alone will cough-up $30M taxes after the season ..... say, 25 teams under the cap ..... that's more than $1M per team) ..... but not enough in the larger scheme of the business.

NBA teams operate independently and carve out their own profits primarily from their home markets ..... gate receipts, TV deals, stadium deals, etc.

I guess so bro.  I think the Heat are wary of the luxury tax.  Siguro Nets na lang and Lakers.  NY nagtitipid na rin.  Thus Lin's offer sheet was not matched.  Big market teams tipid na rin... Boston, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, etc.

Yup, they are wary of the new taxes after the 2013 season ..... hence the relatively inexpensive deals (mini-mid & vet minimum) for Allen & Lewis.

Though Riles has said that he won't amnesty Mike Miller this season (to defend that 'chip ... besides, it's still dollar-for-dollar tax after this season; and they can live with that rate) ...... it'll likely be amnesty-time for Miller after this upcoming season.

Team owner Ariston has revealed that he's operating the HEAT at a loss (only made a profit during the 2010 season) ..... since Miami aint exactly big market (even smaller than Minnesota).

Now that's a great team owner ...... great love of the sport & competition.

If palaging talo sa rebounds, eh di palaging extra possesions ang Lakers?

anyway....woudnt expect anything new coz biased ka for Miami.   Ill just wait and watch the games, then maybe come up with an objective analysis on how Lakers will play.

Lets just wait for these dates

Dec 7 vs OKC and January 17 vs Miami, US dates.

Baka dun malalaman natin kung paano lalamunin ni Durant and Lebron ang Lakers, just like you have repeatedly stated.

Well since there is no answer rather than the bias accusation and the "be objective" charge... well ok Biased naman talaga :D but still its objective more or less and Mia is the team to beat.

Sa rebounds, its already a problem of Mia lalo na sa regular season from last lalo na pagTinatamad mga players, but still Mia won nung nilabas nila next level nila sa playoffs.

I am also wondering on how Spo and the coaching will respond.

I respect Miami and OKC coz they're the NBA Champs and West champs respectively.   Until they are dethroned, they are the teams to beat, given na yan.

Regarding your analysis on Lakers' inability to defend Lebron and Durant, and/or Wade and Westbrook, as a fan, I'm not worried at all about it for now.   I havent seen them play...its all on paper.   Im just excited for the next season..thats it.

+1

OKC still has room for improvement in several departments.

as for Miami, as Spo stated recently.. they intend to play ''position-less'' basketball without a traditional center.

but if it were me, i'd still get a rim protector to relieve some pressure off Bosh and Lebron.

Im not pro-Lakers but its really interesting to watch how the coach will blend all of these talents together. And also how coach spo will adjust his team and win back2back.

Nash doesnt even need to score. Even at his offdays, he can assists and get his teammates to score so how much more if he is scoring. Wade is not consistently healthy and not as effective as before.  Bryant can score anytime and not really expected at defense but I think he can guard Battier or Allen since they are not as dominating as Lebron. MWP can guard and intimidate Lebron. Lebron has not been fully tested yet with hard foul and psyche war (OKC was a far gentle team compared to Lakers). And I think Gasol can match Bosh. Now, who can easily drive to the hoop with D12 inside? Lebron, Westbrook and Durant will need lots of adjustments here.

Lakers currently got one of the best playmaker, the best offensive player and the best defensive player in the lineup ... and the best hitman as well.

So in the end, Knicks will win the championship because im pro-KID ... hehehe.

Just my 2 cents.
