Bro,

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the materials you mentioned.

My problem is i am not sure if its the green blob defect.

I see subtle shades of green on the gray test materials.  Its uniform throughout the screen.

This is unlike the pic you posted where there is a blob (read: irregular shaped green blob).

Im not sure if this is a defect.  I will try to capture it with a pic and post.

Thanks!

R

Sounds like a gamma issue to me then.  If you mind it that much, I dont know if you can actually rectify the gamma settings sufficiently without going inside the service module (although the VT provides a lot of manual tweaks on image settings within the Menu button of your remote - give it a try).

Is the green tint easily noticeable kahit anong picture settings?  like under Cinema mode for instance.

Well then that's good news.  The green blob is so-called because it's a large green spot at or near the center of the screen, with pink shades at the sides of the screen.

Do not think it's easy to render a plain light gray slide.  It's actually one of the most difficult to display.  Try it on a CRT and you will also see slight green and pink discolorations.

So I think your TV is fine.

These TVs might be their last units in production, and they might have corrected the green blob problem in the last batches.  But they won't publicize it of course, because that might translate to millions of dollars in recall costs, re the earlier buyers.

Yes, better daw.  The question is, how much better?

Sabi sa rating ni Katzmaier of cnet: VT30 = 9.1; ST50 = 9.2.

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p50st50/4505-6482_7-35117941.html

But ST50 will be more expensive than VT30.  At kahit OK lang sa yo ang mas mahal na ST50, saan ka bibili?  So pareho lang, buy na u ng VT30  ;).

For what its worth, i prefer the stainless steel bezel of the vt30 than the plastic of the st50.

Nah. Option to leave it and you get less P4K fom the price.  Never been a fan of 3D.  Decided to keep the unit already.

Don't worry too much about it.  Despite the green blob, it's still a very good TV.

But if you're like me, you might want to know just for the sake of knowing. ;)  AFAIK, you are the very first member to see a green blob on the 2011 series Panny plasmas.  I don't know if that should make you laugh or cry...  :(  Once you see it, it's going to be hard to "unsee" it, the same as any TV artifact.

If you want to be sure, you will have to check on plain gray slides.  If you don't have slides, try downloading the free ones.

One is the plasma break in DVD from Evangelos:

http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/download_main.htm

The other is the AVSHD790 calibration disc from avsforum:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration

I recommend the AVSHD790 because it alows you to choose different shades of color.  Try a 70% to  80% gray.

Like I said, it's not such a big deal, since screen uniformity on new plasmas is not the same as they used to be.  My first plasma, a Japan-made Panny (2006, 42 inch, P160K SRP), had perfect screen uniformity and no IR whatsoever.  These days, Panny plasma screen uniformity is bad, and IR is getting worse by the year.

It's a combination of trying to keep plasma prices and power consumption unrealistically low.  Consumers want cheap plasmas and low power consumption plasmas?  Well that's what they get.

FlatpanelsHD measured 204W average for 3D use and 173W for 2D use (same as the 50VT50) with a fairly dim panel (peak brightness of 89 cd/m2). Panasonic caps peak brightness at around ~100 cd/m2 for pro modes supposedly, so maximizing the panel would likely render around ~195w average power consumption for 2D in this mode.

Enabling Dynamic Contrast through Normal or Dynamic modes will render a higher maximum intensity (useful for brighter rooms), but will also consume more power. This is why Panasonic rates the TV at 410W (expect to need roughly this much with a ~200 cd/m2 max panel intensity setting).

To make you feel better, the 50VT30 consumes 54% less than the 50VT20 based on their testing.

thanks sa info bro.
i was actually expecting within the vicinity of 200 watts.  since my previous 720p plasma goes from 70 (or 80) watts  - upto 180 (+/-) watts (on all white screen).  1080p panels consumes more, just wanted a figure since my previous  720p LG plasma was rated about 240 watts (sticker label at the back).

Wala para sa phone.

Pero baka puwedeng alternative ang dead pixel testers.  I don't know how they look like, but I assume solid colors din, parang dead pixel tester ng PC monitors:
