@barrister

Tsip the 24p was activated via the PS3 24p option but I'll check the TV as well.

DVD performance:

The VT30 delivered good DVD performance with our Pioneer 410v DVD player. Set to 1080p we witnessed very good blacks with accurate colors and a clean definition. But on a side note, the over-all picture was softer than our 42C10 and even softer than a Panasonic 32C30X LCD TV.

Comparing the VT30 with our V20 and the Quattron for "upscaled" performance yielded the same results, as detailed above.

Bringing the resolution down to 480p, though, nearly equalized the performance with the C10 and the V20 still with the slight upper hand.

Green blob:

Here it is!

We saw it when playing "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" on the PS3! Chapter 1 (Stage 4), while the hero was fighting an Ice Titan in an all white background. There is a Youtube video that also shows this problem, I'll look for the link again...

Castlevania LOS is my favorite game and I play it almost everyday on my Quattron and the C30X (If i'm forced to go back to the bedroom because it's way too late at night :-[) Now, if I played this particular game on the VT30 first.. maybe, I wouldn't be bothered by it, but since both LCD models and even the V20 didn't have his issue. Seeing it now on my favorite game is upsetting me.

Switching back and forth from the VT30 to the cheap C30X LCD to see the difference and if the "blob" will grow on me is not working. It's ugly and in a way, almost unacceptable! For this particular game, it looks really bad and it's ruining the experience...

I'll go to work now and get back to it later... :'(

Is the blob considered a manufacturing defect and valid for replacement yung unit if found?

It should be.

Big question is, saan kukuha ng replacement?

@ninjababez

That's it brad! But mas masama in real life for me, watched the other videos and now mas worried na ako...I shouldn't have watched the rest :(

Brader paki check naman sa screen ng Xbox 360 if possible. Thanks!

@gunslinger

It should be but it looks like a number of peeps are ok with it. I haven't seen it on a movie so it's hard to say how bad it is outside a video game. But like I said for the game "Castlevania" it looks really bad.

@Clondalkin

I don't think the VT30 has a formal launch here....Sa Sights and Sounds they will replace the unit but if it's not a simple unit specific issue then most probably the replacement will have the same problem.

Mukhang ganoon na nga brader...Tapusin ko lang yung review but it's not a keeper for me...Compared sa video ni boss ninja medyo green lang but sa actual may pink mix pa.

What's happening...? Anyway, ayos naman sa movie but when you already know what to look for masisira lang ulo mo...PV80 and C10 ROCKS! Hehehe

More testing later... ;)

So using the other displays did not exhibit the same color abnormality?

I thought your panel has uniform hue and you're not seeing any ghosts?

Ask yourself a more difficult question - anong kapalit for 60K na 50 incher? - take the risk to import an ST50 from Amazon?

Soli na ba natin?  ;D

Yes.  But I havent tried this PS3 thingie.  Will test it and let you guys know.  Will Vic do a full refund?  If not, the ST50 might be an option.  Antay nga lang.  Cheers bro!

Same sentiment here. It's hard to unsee once you've seen it. That's why my advice since the start was not to look for it or else you'll go insane :)

Going to the PV8, it does not have such issues and screen uniformity is unrivaled. Colors are solid and displayed accurately across the entire panel.

The PV8 was really a great unit as well, it has the same picture quality as the PV80.

Back to the review:

Enough to say that the green blob issue is really present on the VT30 just like how Tonmeister pointed out earlier! Though I wouldn't really look for them in my movies, we know it's there and it's all a matter now if one accepts this issue or not.

Initial plus and minuses:

+
-Superb Blacks and one of the best we've seen
-Great colors
-Fantastic moving resolution
-Great game input response time
-Good SD performance
-Good screen uniformity (would have been better but the V20 beats the VT30 here)

-
-SD/DVD materials not as crisp as native 720p panels
-Phosphor lag or green trails in high contrast areas
-Green blob and pink flashes in certain games (I still need to see this on movies, but we know it's there)

Later again and update when replacement unit comes in.

Wala.  Kung meron man, hindi considered "known issue" yan.

The green blob is a 2011 issue.  VT20 is a 2010 model.

I keep saying that the sellers should import the ST50 (gray imports are fine with me), but they still imported the VT30.  Mura siguro ang VT30 ngayon kaya mas gusto nila.

Anyway, pag sumakit ang ulo nila sa dami ng returns, they only have themselves to blame.   >:(

No.  The ST50 issue is slight vertical banding.  It does not have the 2011 green blob, although a few units have been reported to have slight green spots.

How did it look sir?

The picture had a mild tint. Greenish in the middle and pinkish on both sides. I find it most visible with light hues (though it's almost always visible if you look for it).
