College Student/Gamers Home Theatre
« on: Dec 04, 2012 at 11:36 AM »
I have started to venture into Home Theatre this year, I began as a computer enthusiast (I still am). I am looking to learn from all you masters and veterans on the ins and outs of a home audio system, and I might be of help to some of the members who are in need of advice with regards to the computer industry. I will be posting picks of my humble gaming rig and current home theatre setup.

A brief background:
I am currently a college student studying economics.I will be graduating this year, to pave my own way, to earn my own keep. Hopefully I'll be upgrading my home entertainment along the way...lol I started out with computers and saw a need to upgrade the sounds of my gaming rig. I was looking into the Logitech z5500 as my new gear. But with some research, I decided to go with an entry level Onkyo HT3305 (Which I am using now) as my speakers. And boy was it a great decision. Now I want more, cant wait to earn me some money for my dream setup....hehehehe

Anyhow here are some pictures of my current setup

COMPUTER
My Gaming PC
Processor: i7 920
Motherboard: MSI x58 GD65
RAM: Kingston 24 GB
GPU: Palit GTX 580
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 120GB
HDD: 2x 3TB Seagate
Case: Corsair 600t
Mouse: Razer Mamba 4G
Keyboard: Razer Black Widow
Headphones: Razer Carcharias
Wireless Mouse and Keyboard: Logitech Wave Pro
Controller:Logitech G25 Gaming wheel, Razer Onza TE, Logitech F710

Monitor/TV:

Samsung 400mx-2(LFD)

Audio:
Onkyo HT-3305 (Changed Front L/R Speakers to Sony SS-M33 speakers found in the house)
Altect Lansing bxr1221

Will be posting more pics of my home theare setup... Time to update Photobucket...lol

This is a picture of my room last year, it does not yet have the onkyo ht-3305

Guys I discovered we own a Bose 901 series 5 Speakers set, hindi ginagamit. Akala ko nga wala lang, bose 901 pala, its connected to a Bose equalizer and Onkyo Integra m-504 amp. Ano sa tingin niyo gamitin ko yung 901 as front speakers? Its made for music though and its technology is suppose to give you a surround sound feel, basically feeling the room with sound. Kaya baka pangit for a 5.1 home system. And if so, baka kunin ko yung amp. Ok na ba yung amp to power a future system upgrade?

bro those are very capable components. I think you'll be able to use the 901 for fronts the only problem is finding a center that can keep up.

Bose in the old days used to impress some people back then, including my dad who got me my very first ht set - a Bose Acoustimass 5 series II along with a Bose VS100 center speaker. The technology Bose used to employ back then was taking advantage of room reflections to amplify the speaker output even while using a smaller driver. Nowadays, most room reflections are viewed as a distortion as room interaction varies from one to another and the sound deviates from how the sound were supposed to be heard. So in summary, yeah it can get you started, but if you are searching for a better hifi sound, there are a lot more options out there.

On the other hand, the Onkyo M504 seems like a good power amp. But to get it running you would still need a preamp to accept all the inputs. Probably you can post these gears so we can give you suggestions.

That is what I thought, will check the pre-amp later, currently at the school computer lab...lol I think my grandfather bought the speaker in the late 80's or early 90's, do you think it would need to be refurbished?

Anak ng pating na RAM yan 24 GB ?? and i thought i was an overkill when i put 8GB in my PC  last christmas LOL, i guess not.

Welcome to the gallery...re: Bose 901

While you start earning your own keep when you graduate, the Bose system you have should tide you over until you can begin your Journey of upgrading to better equipment, habang tumatagal kasi nagbabago din ang preference, whether its due to age or nagsawa sa nakasanayan i dont know, point is whether you start with bose or with an htib, you wil change from one system to another and its that Journey that makes this hobby a wonderful thing, good luck with yours and enjoy your toys. :)
