Is it advisable to partition HDD for HTPC use?
« on: Feb 28, 2013 at 02:53 AM »
All I want is to watch HD movies  and 24/7 downloading that's why I bought a Measy X6, but after 8 months it got my 2TB Samsung HDD corrupted and it was a nightmare (I lost everything), someone advised me to switch to HTPC (thanks to him) that's why I'm here. :)

I'm still trying to complete my list of parts for my first HTPC, the first one I bought is the HDD (WD 2TB 3.5 WD20EZRX).  Before I transfer some movies in it, is it advisable to partition it first to have a separate drive letter for the OS? Or is it better to have a different HDD for the OS and just leave this 2TB w/o partition? Thanks in advance!

By the way, this is my first post, glad to be here in PinoyDVD! :)

a seperate partition for your os will be enough...even if your os is corrupted..your files is still safe in other partition...

I second this. Had a chance to assemble a setup with SSD as OS drive and a separate drive for storage. Iba pala talaga performance nya pag SSD ang para sa OS at programs tapos simple storage lang yung high capacity drive. Matuwa ka sa boot up time pati pagrespond ng computer in general. From what I gather this is also more durable for heavy use and in the long run.

that's right. if you have the boot drive also doing storage, when the os does it's random reads and writes, the motor would have a harder time doing tasks, specially if you're using the storage drive at the same time (torrent, movie, music, etc.).

Advantage of two drives, is if one goes bad, you only have half the problem.

masarap din pang games ang SSD kaso ang mahal pa ng mataas na capacity drives.
