If you really like watching movies, if this is your hobby, you are meticulous enough about true black-ness, contrast ratio, etc., if you consider yourself a "video-phile", or to sum it up your foremost concern is PQ when watching movies and do not consider anything else, then the answer is "yes, it is very much okay to buy Plasma TV".
Some people say Plasma is retiring or will become scarce or even disappear soon. Well, there were some also who said vinyl was dying, because they were cumbersome to use, very difficult to maintain, turntables were things of the past, tube amplifiers were hot and consumes way to much electricity, etc., etc., etc. I bet those who made those comments and predictions before are scratching their heads now.
As a hobbyist I would say, buy whatever you think looks good and sounds good to you. If you feel Plasma is better, then go get one. Don't be swayed into buying what is often available in the malls (oftentimes LED and LCD only) and dissuaded from acquiring something because some said those objects will not be popular anymore in 3 to 5 years time.
That is it for me.
