greatauror28's Journey to audio nirvana
« on: Jun 04, 2013 at 01:27 PM »
Been a lurker here for quite a while. A bit reply to a post here and there, but definitely a lot of questions asked. Now, the ends finally met and I was able to start this home theatre setup dream of mine.

Let me start by showing you my recently purchased and very first AVR - Onkyo TXNR-515.
Yes, its a bit dated and I could have bought a powerful receiver but one must start at something right?

So here it is:

Scored this baby for only $399 plus tax which equates to P16,700 give or take a few pesos, which is by all means a good deal. Regular price here in Canada is around $599 so i can say i'm happy with the purchase.

Stay tuned for my floorstanders which should be going on sale anytime this second week of June - which will trigger my purchase.

By the meantime, i had ordered banana plugs, HDMI cable and subwoofer cable in Monoprice.

Cheers! :)

Guys, just bought these babies this afternoon.

Black RTi A7s for less than $750.

Originally bought pair of monitor 75 towers, monitor 45 bookshelves and a CS10 centre because the deal was too good to pass. All in all i just paid $1150 with free 25 and 75 ft energy cables with banana tips.

But the A7s went on sale this morning so I returned the Monitors, but retained the center channel.
There was no Csi A4 or A6 on sale yet, so i'll hold for now.

I haven't bought a surround speaker yet coz i'm torn between RTi A1s or FXi A4. No A3 or FXi A6 for now coz it'll be overkill for my small apartment's living room.

As for the sub, what's your suggestion guys?

I will get the A6 but maybe in the future. The cs10 looks and weighs big for me, i wonder how much more the A6. Besides the availability here, i cant find the right mount for my center channel - that's why it's on a box for now.

As for the FXi A6, i'm finding $499 a pair too much for a surround. Maybe i'll get an A4 or A1 for now.

The SVS PB1000 / SB1000 is $572 shipped in my house, good deal?

Few days after my purchase of my A7s and here I am reading an email from the apartment management that reads something like "noise complaint" and "warning" and "be wary during 10pm to 8am" and "disturbing neighbors" :D

The SVS is quite good deal if you will use for HT get the PB or you can get both dual. Why not get the PB12.

Because it will jump to $847 shipped! Almost $300 difference.
I don't know if the Dept of Budget & Mngt will approve of that.
Baka sa labas nako patulugin haha :D

Anyway, just bought a pair of RTi A1 on sale for only $249 plus tax. Regular price of that here is $399 so i'd say im happy with it.

Recommend naman a nice center channel stand that's not too costly mga masters!

Thing is I live in an apartment and boring holes (big, deep holes) in drywalls is not advisable. It's either the drywall will not hold up to the weight of the TV, or you'll end up paying fines when you leave your apartment for the repair cost.

Anyhow, I manage to rearrange my AV devices such that the center stack of the rack contains only the center channel. I'll post a picture when I got home as I'm at work. It turned out OK for me, at least I don't have to worry about purchasing a center channel stand.

Mind you, i originally planned on putting the CC on a wall shelf I bought in IKEA but ended up just putting BD and PS3 discs on there as it won't hold the speaker I bet. It's kinda better that way IMHO.

My order from Monoprice arrived (at last!) after less than 2 weeks. It contains 14 pairs of banana plugs, 10ft sub cable and a red 3-foot HDMI cable. As expected, the products are of very high quality. Not to think i've only paid a few bucks for them. Less than $2 for a pair of banana plugs, $5-$6 for the sub cable and only $3 for the HDMI. It's really a treat buying from them! It would only require your patience really.

Again, pictures later guys.

Recent cop from Monoprice.
Just banana plugs, red hdmi cable and a 10-ft sub cable.

B plugs installed at the back of my A1.

The couch with surrounds shown.

My simple home theatre setup.

Was able to rearrange my devices and position the center channel on the bottom of the TV.
Planning on getting a sub during the Holidays (or if an impassable deal comes :P)

That's it for now.
