Di ata sila pwedeng mag tank this year unless protected yun picks nila. Sa Suns yun first round pick nila eh

Lakers own their 2014 1st round pick.  Yun sa Sun's are 2013 and 2015 and 2014 2nd round if my memory serves me right.

as far as I can remember, hindi pa. Best they got due to their own bad record is Number 10 Eddie Jones and Number 10 Andrew Bynum.

Dunno about the 70s though. haha

basta si Magic najackpot nila as number 1 pick nila kahit ok record nila kasi galing sa New Orleans Jazz yung pick na yun for Gail Goodrich.

Correct. So pwede naman pala sila mag tank ngayon year. Pero sigurado ako di papayag si Kobe at mga Laker fans. Kaman-Pau-MWP? Hmmm..

Nah. 30 to 40 wins pa din kaya ng Lakers with their line up. Not really "tank" numbers.

Rumor has it that Kobe and Melo might team up next year. Guh. I dont like Melo at all. Haha

This is where you will really admire Magic Johnson.  In the 1991 season, he basically had a rag tag line up.  Lakers roster were Tony Brown, rookies Elden Campbell, Irving Thomas and Tony Smith, second year player Vlade Divac, Larry Drew, and Terry Teagle.

Lakers still had an effective but older Worthy.  He still scored but Magic had to set him up as the explosion from worthy had dipped.  Byron Scott was already mediocre and a first year Laker in Perkins.  But Magic carried the team on his back and made an improbable run to the finals upsetting a much more superior and highly touted team in Portland.

Based on the history of the LA franchise they have never tanked in a season to get a good seeding for the draft. Why would they do that? They have the money to burn, the LA lifestyle which is perfect for a lot of highly paid NBA players plus they have the rich history of hoisting a trophy once every three years as an average. all these factors make them an attractive proposition for NBA players. Howard though is the exception. He simply can't stand being under pressure. Simply put he is the wrong guy for the job.

Sometimes it gets confusing on who's running the Lakers.  I get the tax savings on applying the Amnesty on MWP.  But the Kaman signing while good, makes the direction of the team more like a headache case.

Consider this.... you sign Kaman a post up player which Mike D'Antoni abhors but then Amnesty MWP who actually thrived under the coach's system.   :o

they're not competing for a championship this year so why not? 1-year deal for Kaman, savings on MWP's $7m (if it pushes through. July 10 pa yata pwede). Makes sense for the 2014 plan.

Also, they needed a starting center, Kaman was willing for a 1yr deal so why not. D'Antoni definitely needs to adapt. His personnel are oldies who can't run. He needs a different sytem this year. :D

Even if you are not competing for a championship this year, you still want to establish some sort of system in place....some semblance of direction.  In a MDA system, Gasol is perfect at the 5.  MWP can even play the 4.  Lakers hired MDA because they said during the hire, the MDA system is the best option for success considering the roster at that time.  If they change the system altogether, then the hire was off base.  Whatever changes MDA may implement, it has always benefited wing players.  Kaman is like a screw being inserted on a square peg.

For MWP, it's not really savings per se.  They still have to pay his salary.  If they really wanted savings that much, Gasol was the better option.  Or Kobe the obvious choice.  I don't think he can get back this year fully healthy.  Then the tax saving on him alone would be upwards of $40M.

That's why it makes no sense.  They are not really tanking but are not really competing.   ;D Basically sign whoever is out there even if he doesn't fit the coach's system, get rid of players who thrive in the coach's system, coach may adjust, coach may not adjust to a new system, then....bahala na si Batman. :D

Well, it was Jerry Buss who decided to hire D'Antoni. He probably thought Nash and Howard would fit the Lakers so well and that Showtime would be back.

Jerry probably forgot that his players are old. Jim Buss actually wanted to keep Mike Brown then his dad requested D'antoni. It was not a well-thought out decision but they have to live with it, at least for now.

So yep, mukhang bahala na with whoever they sign this year. I think they're just looking for players who will agree to 1-year deals. Anyone who will fill in the vacant spots for this year for the sake of fielding a complete team. :D

To amnesty Pau or Kobe would not benefit them basketball-wise naman. They're looking to re-sign those two in 2014 at lower deals. Can't say the same for MWP. If they amnesty Pau, someone will pick him up. Same with Kobe, I guess.

**if I remember correctly, you only pay the salary of that player if no one picks up his contract within a certain period. So...if someone picks up MWP, savings din projected at $25m yata. That's still a good number.

I'm actually not questioning the hire of MDA anymore or Pau or Kobe being amnestied.  However, isn't this the best opportunity to run a system that the coach you hired actually likes?  I can see why MDA had to adjust last year.  They were in a win mode then. Not so this year.  So run the motion offense/small ball/fast ball offense that Mike D'Antoni is most famous for.  You are basically tanking this year no other choice.  So hire players who might fit well in the system.

......and then you sign Kaman.   :D

Jordan Hill.showed flashes of brilliance at the 5 before the injury.  If Artest is indeed being amnestied, who do they have left at the 3? The back up, Earl Clark was snapped up by the Cavs.

This is really the right time to implement a system that D'Antoni wants.  Best time to find out if he can really coach and if he is really the best fit for the Lakers.

How about their pick from Duke, Ryan Kelly? Looks like a poor man's Byron Mullens (which is not really saying much). :)

Detroit is now the best in the East:

Rasheed Wallace is a Detroit Pistons assistant coach
