Thanks, Nelson.  I've actually seen some already. But what I'm building is nowhere near those professionally done.

This weekend, will be mounting my speakers.

After that, I plan to calibrate.  Did some googling on how to do this.  Has anyone tried those cheap (less than PHP2k) Sound Pressure Level meters at Sulit?  Would they work acceptably well?

Ricky, your offer is very much appreciated.  Hiya na lang talaga ako.  You've done me many favors already and I know this is a business for you and here I am exploiting your trade secrets kahit wala kang kinikita sa akin.  Deficit na ako sa personal favors account ko sa iyo.

Sige.  Once I get the brackets up, invite kita for some calibration fun!  Tell me what's your poison and we'll have a ball.

Pressure...pressure.

Hirap mag-post dito.  Just wanted a leisurely pace.  Now, I have to keep up with the updates! :D

With my new speakers comes a need for new brackets.  Did a quickie this weekend for this.

Used some old stock beech plywood and edge-banded with mahogany.  Stained with mahogany, sand-sealed, then painted with clear-gloss lacquer.

This is how it looks installed with the speakers.

Still a mess.

Note the ceiling.  It was painted flat black some years back.  But, somehow, some milky white substance appears after some time.  Anyone have any idea to get rid of this permanently?  After repainting, it reappears after a year or so.

I placed the gear are at the rear wall instead of the front so there're not distracting dashboard lights.  Made a rack made of beech plywood and mahogany.

Those front legs posed a bit of a creative challenge.  They're not square (cross-section) but somewhat of a diamond protruding outwards.  Had to plan a bit on how to cut three long pieces and glue together.

For the shelves, I thought I had a brilliant idea of using aluminum angle bars.  What was I thinking!  I think I'll strip it one day and use proper mahogany edge-bandings.

This is how the bass traps look installed.

That gap in the middle is where the surround (rear) speakers will go.  I plan to install the surrounds at a 45-degree angle somewhat facing the listener so I am improvising a bracket.  Still unfinished:

I'd rather add life to my years than years to my life.

PHM ba itong napasok ko or PDvd.
:D

Just make sure your speakers doesn't "move" when playing. otherwise, energy for making sound will be converted into mechanical energy.

Hmmm...how do I do that?

For the front speakers that sit on a shelf, perhaps I can fabricate a bracket that screws onto the backside to keep it still?

I also saw some people attach some "pointy" legs on speakers.  Is that something that helps?  Where do I get those pointies?

Those pointy legs are for concentrating the weight of the speakers to 3 points. Parang cabinet foot. So imagine a cabinet without foot, dba ang daling i-slide sa location nya.
You can initially use blu tac muna till such time as ok na sa iyo ang location and position.

Forgot to mention one thing important.

I placed all my gear behind the audience:

This means it would be hell using the standard remote control.  So, first, I got a Logitech Harmony remote so I can integrate all remotes into one.  Then I got this:

It's a remote control extender.  It comes with a battery that doubles as a RF transmitter so the signal from the remote is converted into RF, no need for line-of-sight.  The receiver is the flying-saucer-looking device which can be placed near your gear.  In the photo of my rack, it's not very visible but the saucer-receiver is at the far end of the 2nd level of the rack.

Works very well.

Hi,

The white substance could be water seepage into the concrete above.  You need to check where water could be coming from so you can treat with waterproofing.

You need to address this first before installing any ceiling finish or acoustic material.

That can only be water leak. Barring plumbing leak, it can only be traced to the roof. Even if a room is several floors below, water can find its way.

To check plumbing, stop using the water for a while. Check the meter if it spins. If it spins, looks for leaky pipes and running faucets, showers, and toilets. If you don't find any, you can suspect a leak from the roof.

Thanks, Joey & Gino.

Yes, we had some water seepage problems from the deck above.  My HT is in the basement.  We recently fixed the seepage so, I hope that did it.  Will probably take the risk and paint it.

Paint the ceiling? Pwede din i-treat ng absorbers and/or diffusers.

I actually plan to install some sound absorption panels on the ceiling, too.

Ding instead of absorption, consider diffusers instead, you might end up with a dead room more than you want. It will only require your amps more power and your speakers to work harder....

Agree.
I "overtreated" my former listening room and ended up taking away half of the absortion treatments.
Aside from the power issue timber mentioned, too much absorption tends to suck some nuances from the highs.
Btw, great work you're doing!

Thanks for the suggestions re diffusers, Sonny & BB.

I'd appreciate more:

What I have today are panels on the right and left wall to absorb first reflections and bass traps for the rear corners.   That's all.  I plan to put small panels on the ceiling (not the entire ceiling) also for first reflection points.  I then plan to hang some bass traps at the left and right ceiling-wall corners.  Given time, I plan to construct  a quadratic diffuser at the rear wall (which could also serve as an ornament.

From your experience, would that be overdoing it?

All my walls are concrete.  Ceiling is hardifex.

Sometimes, nagrattle ang ceiling kapag malakas ang sub mo. Madalas because of light/thin material. Sometimes, because there were not properly fastened.

Encountering some problems with my set-up lately.

When watching a movie, after some time (half an hour to more than an hour), the screen would go blank and would display "No HDMI Signal" at the bottom of the dark screen.  The audio would then continue so I know the movie is still playing.

I would shutdown the entire system and, usually, when I switch it on again, the movie (audio and video) would resume.  Sometimes, I would need to do this a few times before I can resume the movie.

Any idea what's going on?  Bad cables?

My setup is this:
Source are a Measy X5 and a Sony S5100 BD Player.
Both sources are connected via HDMI cables to a Sony 7.2 STR-DH520 Receiver.
The receiver is connected via a HDMI cable to an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 3020 Projector.
Speakers are all SVS.
I'd rather add life to my years than years to my life.

I got two extra hdmi cables you can try brader... Padaanan mo na lang sa court. Just let me know a day in advance.
