THE CES 2014 show "unleashes" new TV models or prototypes for 2014. Nothing there is spoken about PLASMA TV, PDP technology is now a footnote, not anymore a display "forefront" held in almost reverent esteem by discerning videophiles. The only citation for PDP is Samsung's very low-key announcement of a 2014 F8500 plasma model that'll be priced lower and trimmed of the largely (gimmick-type/pampagulo) non-Picture features that the current one is replete with. This model is not debuting in CES and the announcement's not supported by images of the prototype. Apart from this Samsung TV release, no more is mentioned on plasma. Which brings the dimmest portent for PDP as this Korean manufacturer has not truly revolutionized the technology but merely churned ho-hum models after models that no purists ever considered as benchmarks - during plasma's ascendant years. The loudest buzz on the TV front is about 4K LEDs and ever-larger OLEDS. I've not been a cave-dweller all these years but those flashy techs just can't elicit any thrilled throbs in me, I see them in their present incarnations as much ado about nothing.
If Samsung remains as the leading PDP manufacturer, mabuti pang wala. After this sinking-feeling news on plasma's adieu's, I'm left with sifting info on video processors, projector screens that could truly improved DLP beaming, or a new Blu-ray player that could incorporate HQV Realta video processing that's more advanced than the Vida or the T2. The demonstrative sign that some fellas truly upholds the departing Panasonic PDPs was the quick drying up of the ZT60 top-end model. Wala nang mabili nito ngayon from the mainstream dealers in North America, mayroon man, noong nagtingin-tingin ako sa web, either the prices are pegged on its original SRP or raised far too high.
