Pa mini review naman, bro jackryan. Sa Amazon kasi, the reviews say that it's "buggy".

bros, don't expect anything fancy...

here's the disclosure, i got a number of NMT players and may be I should take photos of them over the weekend... recently,  my baseline standard is the android based player called "Hi Media" China made player.

Anyway, I find the Neo X7 to run cooler than above... but does not seem to offer me anything extra versus the Neo X5.

I installed the MX Player by downloading it from the Google Playstore. It's wonderful and gives me the easy slider controller to the movies I get to watch.

The good thing about the X7 just like the X5, runs very cool. It has built-in wifi-N support and comes with its own antenna. It has the usual ports but I hate the small almost non-functional remote controller --- you gotta ditch for something else...

that stated, if you already have the Neo X5, then not really a lot of reason to upgrade to Neo X7.

Can you install Hola Unblocker on it and watch Netflix, Hulu, and the like without a hitch.

I now watch Netflix and Hulu on my laptop and watch downloaded movies on my NMT. Would love to combine the 2 functions in 1 device

Mga sir, I would like to know if Minix Neo X7 can output Dolby Digital & DTS audio thru the optical-out? That's the only thing that's holding me back from upgrading my xtreamer pro. Thanks

finally got one!  i'm very satisfied.  some minor complains

 - slow startup, once it's up ok na.

 - control, android was designed for handset and particularly touchscreen.  you can navigate using usb keyboard or mouse.  use bluetooth keyboard/mouse or get their "air mouse" (A1 or A2 models).  some says you can use apple's magic touchpad.

is it stable?  yes out of the box. once you put an app that might not be well written causes instability.  like any app installed on android phone.

i only installed essential for media files. no games or whatsoever.  mx player does the job!  i'll add more info as soon as i explored it further.

Ever since I loaded the Archos video player app into our Android devices,  I've been looking for an Android based NMT to run it on.

What I like most is that it automatically does what I have had to do manually on other NMTs,  saving hours of time. The user interface is also nice and sufficiently extensive.  Over the years,  we've used Measy,  XTreamer and Mede8er. We've also tried XMBC on a PC.  The Archos app,  IMHO,  is most the convenient.

The Minix Neo X7 so far seems to be a suitable platform to run the Archos app on.  It does come with its own media player app but I like the Archos app which costs about P250.  There is a free version though.

The only thing is the X7 will not take an internal disk,  and the USB is only version 2.0.  We use a NAS so this is really not an issue for me.

Forgot to mention the remote is a bit wanting.  Luckily,  we have those Lenovo remotes meant for HTPCs that provide a full keyboard.

The Archos app has a companion app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.m4rk3t.libcopy2&hl=en which installs all sorts of codecs. Funny thing is I can't seem to find the list of codecs.  It does seem to support DTS and DD.

I spoke too soon.  The Minix Neo X7 is not as mature as other NMTs.  I think the Archos video player is also lacking.

First of all, the X7 can only produce progressive scan outputs (i.e. 480p, 720p, 1080p). This means that if your system is a 1080i system then the X7 will convert it down to 720p even if your file is 1080p to begin with.  Our projector is still 1080i, even though the rest of the system is 1080p, so I've been looking at 720p ... upgrade?! ... but still good enough.  I suspect this is a limitation of the hardware so it may not be fixed with a firmware upgrade.

Sound for me is actually more important that the screen resolution so the next problem was the "deal breaker".  It seems that the X7 cannot output 5.1 or higher, at least through the HDMI port, I did not try the optical port.  Its sound subsystem does have several options including a "passthrough" option which passes the decoding job to the next device which in our case is a Yamaha RX-V3800, but according the 3800 only a stereo signal was getting to it.  I though it might be my Archos application however after trying VLC and the native player with no luck, I have to guess it is a problem with the firmware or the hardware.

Am downloading a custom firmware now and will try again.

This is disappointing because the quad core performance is very refreshing compared to that of our Mede8er 500X2 (I think), but ...

did you try changing the settings?  settings > sound > sound device manager > pass through ?

i just finished testing it.  nung una taka ko bakit nakalagay sa display ng receiver PCM 2 ch. after ko palitan pass through umayos.

add/edit: minix x7 isn't perfect pero sobrang sulit. im getting more what i paid for in my opinion. i do miracast, DLNA, music player, youtube (vimeo, ustream, etc.), at marami pang iba.

eto panget: yun stock remote. kung basic lang pwede mag tyaga.   best is wireless keyboard/mouse. may app to use your phone/tablet as remote pero feeling ko kulang parin.

i will just update this thread re new firmware 008.  so far so good. meron isang thread sa kabili pero its more of comparison and i've said my piece. anyway, mas smoother sya ngayon as compared to 005.

may issue lang sa dobly 5.1 pero they are already aware and going to fix it.

you can follow this thread re 008 as well as other ups/downs sa minix neo x7.
http://www.minixforums.com/threads/neo-x7-008-firmware-1st-jan.3570/page-20

i wanted to create separate thread sana pero i guses this will do in case you have one... tulungan tayo :)

got this for 5.7k and i think im getting more from what i paid for.

If the x7 does not do 1080i, does the x7 Mini do 1080i? Or progressive scan din kaya just like the x7?

I hope we have x7 Mini users here who can chime in :)
