It has come to my attention, thanks to some really nasty and disturbing emails (  ;D ) that the Armageddon 2-disk special edition R3 release (well, at least the ones released here in the Philippines) lack some of the features indicated in the box or the leaf insert.

I bothered to check on the two discs and listed the exact features as I viewed and counted them:

Disc 1
- Chapter Selection
-- 1 to 27
- Set-up
-- Languages: English, Thai
-- Subtitles:English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Bahasa, Thai, Korean, English for the hearing impared

Disc 2
- Deleted Scenes
- Special Effects
-- Richard Hoover (he discusses the Shuttle Approach, Armadillo Jump, The Asteroid, Matte Paintings)
-- Hoyt Yeatman (he discusses the 11-second "Destruction of Paris" shot)
-- Pat McClung (generally, he discusses the Russion Space station sequences)
- Production Design
-- Michael White (he discusses the overall look of Armageddon, the wardrobe, asteroid set, design gallery, vision, armadillo and shuttles)
-- Storyboards (Armadillo Jump, Rock Storm)
- Aerosmith Music video (which includes interviews of band members)
- Theatrical Trailer (the main movie trailer)

The DISCREPANCIES - The ff. are the features printed in the box or insert that's not in the actual content:

Disc 1:
- Commentary Tracks by Michael Bay, Herry Bruckheimer, Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck
- Another track by John Schartzman, Dr. Joe Allen, and Ivan Beckey

Disc 2:
- Gag Reel: As I noticed, only one gag reel appears, and that gag is one of the deleted scenes.
- Teasers and TV Spots (one of those should be the SuperBowl tv spot "Everyone is watching the game... someone should be watching the sky.")

So as you can see, my friends, I too am dissappointed, to the point that I give you these facts. Please mga pare, don't be angry with me. I didn't know naman e, ok?

(Well, CAPT. BARBELL, it seems some of the original R3 releases are NOT as different as the pirated ones, eh?  )

Life.

This situation is not isolated to R3 dvds as instances where mislabeling in R1 dvds occur. nonetheless, it is far more frequent in R3's especially in recent Warner 2 discs releases. well, maybe they think we don't actually read or view the special features.

For R3, I think Fast and furious is one of the example.

For R1, I have Irreversible. It lacks "making of" feature which is mentioned in the box.

why? i think the answer to that is simple... because the people who make these dvds are simply human. and they make mistakes too.  ;D

as jegiwong has noted... this problem is not isolated to r3's alone but even r1's as well. (of course, i will be the first to admit that it happens more often to r3's).

in fact some members and myself have even noted that even warner (perhaps one of the more reliable manufacturers of dvds distributed here) seem to be making this kind of mistake quite often lately. EG: casblanca, sierra madre, american outlaws... etc...

i think the best thing we can do to protect ourselves as consumers is to visit sites like this... and learn from other buyers' experiences. ;)

well, the only time i encountered this was with the powerpuff girls movie i bought for my cousin.

it had some features listed at the back that wasn't in the disc.  i was glad that astrovision offered to have it replaced with another title since it seems that all powerpuff girls the movie dvd's were like that.

well I think you can add the title Robin Hood Prince of Thieves Extended Edition R3 to the list of titles with incomplete indicated features.  ;)

It's really disappointing for these things to happen but there are rare cases when unadverstised features are bonuses for us such as R3 Monsters Inc. DTS track. For the high price we pay for the DVDs, its a wonder why we can't get a more reliable product that's really worth our hard-earned money!  ??? >:( ::)

Some producers kasi don't even bother to check the DVD and compare it with the casing kung kulang nga.   >:(Malas kung kulang...okey lang kung sobra.  hehehe.  ;)

I have something to add....

the DVD release of "Dogfight" starring Lili Taylor and River Phoenix...

it clearly states in the back portion of the case that it includes a cast/director/producer filmographies as part of its special features... however once that i viewed it, it is not included. However, it has a commentary and original theatrical trailer, but still it should still be included since the R1 counterpart has it. some may say that the filmographies is only a small part, but i still want value for my money.

i wish that Warner could be more sensitive in those inconsistencies. if only i could have a refund or at least a replacement copy which includes the filmographies.

R3 version of Barcelona

According to the box, the only special features is the theatrical trailer. But when you view the disc pala, an audio commentary by Whitman and the cast is included din.

Perhaps Mr. Hankey and I can put put together a list of "defective" R3 DVD releases and make it a sticky. We'll limit it to those that identify features in the packaging that aren't found on the discs. PM me if you have stuff in your R3 collection that we missed.

I'm on it, boss!  8)

Found this thread and made it "sticky", so it'll stay near the top of the board.

Off the top of my head, I'll add the following titles:

1. West Wing Season Two

2. Wonder Woman Season One

Both do not contain audio commentaries, despite commentaries being listed on the box.

3. Friends Season 1 & 2 R3 Reissues - Despite the "Now With Footage You've Never Seen" print on the box, according to those who've bought them and posted about them on this forum, these discs do not contain the extended versions of the episodes.

4. Evolution - Does not contain deleted scenes (I'm not sure if deleted scenes is listed on the box, though - but some people complained about it here when it was first released).

5. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - Read about the many missing features here.

6. Casablanca - missing one theatrical trailer (not bad)

More to follow when I think of others...

How about a similar thread in the R1 board?  ;D

On a good note, Monsters Inc. R3's cover does not indicate a DTS track, which I'm happy to report it has! I think Hemisphere has mentioned that this is an exclusive to the Asian release.  ;D

5. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - Read about the many missing features here.

Strangely enough, the 1938 Robin Hood disc does contain the introduction by Leonard Maltin. Problem is, there is no link to it from any of the menus, you'd have to access it from your player's program search. I don't think its embedded as an Easter Egg either, and besides, it is advertised on the cover as the intro to the "Night at the Movies" portion.

I checked Yankee Doodle and Sierra Madre (which mistakenly promise the same feature) if there is a hidden introduction, but there is none. I wonder what issues Leonard Maltin has got against us Southeast Asians that he would refuse to license his face or voice for R3 release.

Reading through this thread, and all related threads of late, my "beautiful friendship" with Warners has come to an end. Sigh.

In short .... madaming palpak sa R3 DVD's as compared to the R1's. Hmmmpffff! Talagang itong mga local manufacturers ng DVD's dapat ayusin nila and even improve yung manufacturing process nila ng local DVD's!!!

No wonder I still look for R1's kasi usually the quality is better (and more complete!)

Calling the attention of all those DVD's manufacturers in the Philippines .......
