preliminary sound test....

G2 is supplied 380volts thru a mosfet regulator,
plates are dissipating about 26 watts each so that
class A window is large, about 12 watts of class A is available...
no signs of stress to tubes and traffos are running cold to the touch...

remember this SET, a triode wired 6AV5?

and draws this much power?

well, Gerry Sta Maria gave me these pair of tubes, these Bendix hard glass 7403 types were intended for radar application...
this tube has a 45 sec warmup time...http://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/131/7/7403.pdf

looking at plate curves, mu is around 10, better than a KT88, with g1-g2 mu of 8....
plate resistance is about 667 so a 2.5k OPT fits very well

in action...

power draw...better than the KT88....kaya na nyang painitin yung power traffo... ;)

this amp has been with me for about 2 years now...

i have changed the original power traffo rated to 250 watts to a bigger one,
this time it can handle more power and therefore runs cooler...

there is an issue, the sound goes soft after two hours of use...so on for more tweaking.... ;)
looking at the 6CL6 data sheet, recommended grid leak resistor for fixed bias was 100k,
i had 1 meg installed, no wonder then that bias tend to drift with time...
so i installed 150k grid leaks, while this made the amp load the preamp more and
had to crank the volume all the way up, this stabilized the input tube, operating points are steady now...
i used red leds to bias the cathode of the 6CL6...
and with about 200 volts at the plate, there is more than enough drive to push the EL34 grids around,
the EL34 are running 20 volt cathodes, so 200 volts being much much greater than 20 volts, there is more than enough drive...
will have to rearrange input volume controls still...

i had a series of long phone conversations with the legendary John Poscablo who i admire very much btw....
naturally we compared notes...and it is there that i found out that there are those calling him
on the phone inquiring about amp builds and when he gives quotes, the caller would say,
'Bakit kay ka Tony ganun lang ang price, bakit sa iyo ang mahal?'
i did not ask him who the caller or callers were, i did not care...
i believe that it would be unfair and uncalled for to ask John to make an amp based on what i use to charge...
if you want a Poscablo amp build, then pay his price, simple as that....

because of this i am no longer entertaining inquiries thru pm....
not even thru the phone......
you have to come to the house and we have a face to face meeting, and then we can discuss..

and to make things clearer, i am not after the bussines of other diy'ers here,
i am a one man affair, just wanting to build amps as a hobby, since tubes are my passion...

i will not entertain jobs that are repair in nature, i hate fixing other peoples' mess...
only my own mess.....

i do not Mundorf amps, Jojod, john, mang rod or rene rivo is the men for those jobs....
restorations jobs are the specialty of rene rivo....he is the one you have to go to...

i do not offer to sell my amps, if you notice i never post in the market place selling my amps...
i post my creations in the technical thread, when they are working, you can come to house
for a look see, and if you like it then it is possible you can have it...

i am in this hobby to teach other people, mostly the younger ones than me
to make their own amps, if they learn well, then they will be able to sell amps themselves...
there are more diy'ers wanting to build amps that come to the house,
to be honest i am happier when they do....i know i am serving a purpose...:)

i do not think that as a hobbyist there is big bucks to be made, only when you are
making and selling amps by the thousands will you ever see real money...
a one or two affair never cuts it...
