if you noticed it, the 6L6, El34, 6550, KT88 have the
same pin-outs so you have a lot of choices..
just jumper pin 1 and 8 and you are good to go,,
you can use the same circuit i posted above...

the above topology is what i use when doing power amps
of more than 30 watts, Patrick turner seems to like it...
it was borne out of the mullard 5-20 input and phase splinter topology..
many amps used the same like harman citation 5, and even the carver silver 7....

90% of tube amps is the output transformer...
get the OPT right and you can have a mighty fine tube amp..
you can ask Edrel to make one for you using M6/Z11 cores,
i am willing to help you out should you decide to build one...
KT88's can now be purchased localy at a very reasonable price...

Sir Tony,

Once natapos ung current project ko, sigurado ito ang next.

Would definitely ask for some help.

Regards,

just as we were beginning to enjoy this amp, one tube bacame gassy....  :o
so what to do?
well, i replaced to octal socket to septar 7 pin socket once more,
this amp has gone full circle, from a failed 829b set to a 5898....http://www.r-type.org/exhib/aaa0001.htm

the difference between the 829 and 5894 tubes are:
1. 5894 has a single cathode, this makes the transconductance identical for both plates
since there is only one source of cathode currents unlike in the 829b which had two cathodes tied together..
2. the 829b has 30 watts of plate dissipation per plate compared to just 20 watts for the 5894
3. the plate pins are thicker on the 5894 than with the 829b....

some are of the opinion that these two tubes are interchangeable, this maybe
but i caution you that plate caps once used in the 5894 will not be usable for the 829b anymore
as it would have become loose...

after rewiring...

power draw is around 110 watts, very similar to the 7403....
operating point is 300volts plate at 80mA cathode, for about 12 watts per plate...
this is way below the 40 watt limit for this tube...

many years ago, i participated in a group buy at diyaudio,
i spent U$240, lost to a guy from Indonesia...those were for 10 pcs each of Toshiba
p and n type dual jfets...when the goods arrived, they were relabeled npn and pnp dual bjt's instead.
never got my money back, i still have those fakes with me as a reminder...

5894 SET cum 6GU7/6RHH2 Aikido...

built using the Russian 6H8C, 6SN7 equivalent...
circuit is a Broskie CCDA implementation using 47k plate/cathode resistors,
and 820 ohm 1st cathode bias resistor..
the 5Z4 rectifier tube was harvested from a Sakura AV200 hybrid amp....

i am a tubehead, tube electronics are my passion, i make tube amps as a hobby, not as a way to earn a living...
i do not sell tubes as a rule, but for fellow diy'ers i do a swapping deal mostly..
if i sell my amps, it is only for the purpose of rolling funds so i can make another amp...
in other forums i contribute what i can to help younger people make their own tube amps,
and thus send them to their own tube journey....
i am busy at FB on several forums and at diyaudio.com, one of two Pinoys honored to wear a mod hat..

i am also into tube rolling, but not the kind that many who do not make their own amps do...

Easter MOD line amp....another Broskie CCDA line amp, this time using the 4KN8 twin triode tube....
this is a dual mono line amp, the channels each run on their own power supply
completely independent of the other...this is a prototype preamp, not for sale....
btw, this is not an AIKIDO preamp, many of those who bought the little preamp
like the sound of it more than the Aikido, so i made another version, this time
upping it one notch higher....i have at lest 5 notches still running in my head... ;)
