Sir Tony replaced ko na LM317 sa preamp ko mas okey pala sya sa lower voltage of 47V & 23~24V. Alin nga ba sa aikido yung valve na malaki impact pag pinalitan? Yung sa input ba or sa output? Parang nabasa ko dati buffer nalang yung output eh please enlighten. Thanks.

Dynaco SCA35 repairs...plate voltage at around 310 volts,
cathode bias around 12 volts, each output tubes at around 30mA each
so that each output tube dissipates about 10 watts a piece
when mains voltage is about 230 volts....
i will give this amp a clean bill of health...:D

4D32 single ended amp progress, all filaments are wired up...
filaments alone draws 80 watts from the line,
another 80 watts will be drawn once completed,
projected losses in the 180 watt range,
this is because of the lower losses in the power traffo,
Edrel's iron are truly of good quality....;)

in time for holy week.....
another 2A3 set modification completed, tweaking goes on, but for now,
i am sure i will be able to put a smile on the owner's face...;)
driver tube used the TFH( tube from hell) we at diyadio codenamed to slow
down them you know who....;)

the driver tube is a 12HL7, but 12GN7 and 12BY7 can also be used....
these are video pentodes wired as triode, their high transconductance accounts
for the high local open loop gains...

i am unable to challenge the JJ's past the 250volt 60mA operating point
due to limitations of the power traffo....

depends on how you define cheap, there is this german guy in OLX selling the 12ax7 for about 4.4k each...https://www.olx.ph/item/12ax7-ecc83-original-german-made-valvo-pre-amp-tube-ID77Je3.html?p=2&h=8417296699#8417296699

final na....

filaments only shows power draw of 42 watts...

power draw when amp is fully operational....108 watts with 40 volts on the grid
2A3 tube dissipation is about 16 watts per plate....

underside after the modification....

Sir Tony, this preamp is interesting. I've been wanting to try an aikido preamp for my set up yun lang i heard its a bit pricey kaya hindi ko pinursue. If this small preamp can equal or better the aikido with a budget price, wow gusto ko din nito sir. If you are to make a new one of this, how much would it cost now sir? I intend to pair it with my emotiva xpa2 gen 2 sir. Can you please pm me sir?

Choyb, congrats & enjoy this wonderful preamp by sir Tony.

yes i will make one for 5k, i just need to import the 6H23 tubes, they have risen in price, they now sell for U$25 each....

fyi, if cost is no object, i can also make pricey preamps if that is desired...upwards of 30k....

Sir Tony, will there be a big difference in sound quality between the 5k budget preamp & the pricey one in the 30k budget. The obvious difference that I imagine would be the quality durability of materials to be used but what about the SQ? Please advise.

i do not usually answer these type of questions...this makes me different from other diy'ers....
i leave it up to you the end users to decide and only after you have compared them both side by side....

but to give you a hint, anything i build that is not to my liking, i tear it down and start over again...

and this much i can say, tube gears can be made to any price point, but in the end you decide
what you like...

Sir Tony I understand what you mean. Let's go back to the nice 5k preamp, say what if we make a better or special version of it with better parts, mundorfed, premium caps, etc..how much do you think are we looking on this? Also, is a balanced XLR output possible to add in a tube preamp? I've never seen one but wondering because my power amp also have inputs for balance connection. I beginning to get excited on this sir.

I' ve checking & reading the web re the 6H23, it is highly regarded by DIY'ers and audio enthusiasts.
Kaya naman, highly sought after.
Would not have known about this tube if not for you...Salamat po!
