Yes Louie it is a shame that we live on different islands but maybe something can be sorted out one day. I'm also getting excited but no work on the project from midday yesterday till tomorrow morning. We're waiting for polythene sheet to be delivered, there will be a polythene lining before the sand is added to the stage & seat riser.
if its possible not to add the sand YET, please try it first.  it does sometimes have a good effect sonically.  the if its not to your liking, then fill the stage with sand.  billabongs's setup is one of the best ht checked out and i find the effect good (raised wooden floor).

To fill with sand later would mean removing the carpet & all the gears. I don't know whether I would want to do that but I will give your suggestion some thought & do a bit more research.

NinjaB. wants the seat riser to resonate for the "massage effect".

Thanks for that DTNS, if it happens I'll probably be looking at a 4K PJ. This is the area of HT that I know nothing about so will have to do much auditioning   ;D

Researched a bit this morning & from what I was reading anybody who has left their stage & risers empty have been very lucky not to have had problems. Rockwool or Fiberglass will resolve the resonance issue but sand will add mass that will help to prevent vibration from the subs & speakers getting to the floor.
As it would be too much work to retro fit on this occasion I'm going to follow the 'experts' - sand it is  :).

We've come to a bit of a halt, waiting for poly sheet (to go under the sand) & the step nosings to be delivered. Only work done today - I made a compartment in the front of the seat riser to house the step light power supply, it will be fitted with a removable grill so it can 'breathe'.
May not be further updates till Wednesday.

There's always the transducers that you can turn on & off.  ;D

You should sundry the sands before installing. there are also other options other than poly sheets for sealing. The PE foam insulation are basically same (material) with poly sheets.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'sundry the sands'. I intend to put polythene (plastic) sheeting inside the stage & riser before adding the sand, this is to prevent the sand finding any exits & also if I need to make alterations, easier to remove.

Have the sand exposed to the sun to lessen moisture.

He he, too many San Migs, I read it as sundry meaning miscellaneous when it should of been sun dry - my mistake. No problems with moisture the sand is being stored inside.

Hi Jammy, I didn't explain myself fully, the sand has already been dried in the sun & brought inside in case it rains which at this time of year is very possible   :)

That is looking mighty good. What's your room's floor dimensions? It's just so I can imagine it.

Thanks Gino, the room would have been near to one of the 'golden ratios' but my architect forgot about the depth of the beam halfway down the room so I've ended up with 1:1.83:2.58 which is still not bad. Dimensions are 22' 11 3/8"  long, 16' 1 1/2" wide & 8' 10 1/4" high.

HT room on hold for a few days, drying out another delivery of sand & preparing the underside of the roof over hangs for the CCTV install. Soffit install the next job we will be doing as I expect the sand drying to take around a week   :(

Taken by surprise today, arrived on site to find the decorators in the HT room filling the screw holes, taping the Gypsum board joints & applying putty. 3 walls finished only left wall & ceiling to go.
Photos tomorrow.

You can heat the sand in a big wok. Or you can use hair dryer also.

Thanks for the suggestions Nelson but I think there's just a little too much to go down those routes. It's fortunate that the games room is now fairly clear, we've spread the sand & turning it as it dries, hopefully shouldn't take too long. It won't stop us from installing the soffits & lighting   ;D.

Decorators doing well, 2 walls filled 2nd time around, should be complete tomorrow. Air con mounting plate fitted, not to happy as the installers have mounted it 8" off center, cannot do anything about it as pipe work was installed in the wrong position. I will have to modify the rear soffit install, a bit of an inconvenience but not insurmountable.

Looking rear from front.

Looking front from rear.
