The HT room is now more looking like a building site while the soffit install is going on. We're a little nearer to final finishing, then we can paint  ;D ;D ;D
Added 3 more wall colours so as I'm hopeless with colours come on guys help me out & give your opinions, the carpet is a deep red.

All 4 colours, previous colour on the right.

The previous colour

The 2 middle colours

Left hand colour

I'd go with the darker of the middle colors. If that blends too much with the carpet, I'd be happy with the left most color. The right colors look pink to me. A dark grey carpet will look nice with the darker of the middle colors. I just think the wall and red carpet will be too monocromatic.

Thanx for your comments Gino, The right colour has turned more pink over the last 2 days or the other colours are accenting the pink tint. I'm tending to favour the darker of the middle 2 colours (same as you) as it looks the richer texture of the 4. Unfortunately the carpet colour is set as I brought from the UK. I originally was thinking of a deep mauve for the walls but could not find a suitable colour . I'm worried about a conflict with the carpet but as I say I'm hopeless with colours, I have to see them & then decide yae or nay.

me too... the darker the better. with my theater color having neutral gray. it gets distracting when watching 3d movies since light is still reflecting on the walls.. so the darker the better to minimize light reflection

I'll go for 2nd from left of first pic, but have to check it visually next to carpet. Should have better colour/tone transition.

It's my first post here but I've been following this build since the beginning and it's every progress. Your project has been going smoothly and turning out very well as planned. Now that it's on final/finishing stage, careful selection of materials esp. colours are very important that should match or compliment with other finishes or furnitures. Lighting locations and fixtures (type) should be taken into consideration also.

Thanx audiojunkie, the build has been going well, we've had a few problems but only small ones which have been sorted on the run but it's my inability to visualise colours that has caused the most problems. The location of the lighting I sorted this morning, I will find if I got it right in about 2 weeks, there is no substitute for experience. The colour you prefer is the one I'm leaning to, also Gino's preference   :).

That color may still look good with the red carpet. Light plays a big role on how we see color. The floor is on a different plane so light strikes it differently from the walls.

Another color that goes well with red carpet is dark greyish green. White trim can break the wall and floor transition.

I had another look at the carpet (it's wrapped up outside) & it's not one solid colour but a weave using 2 different reds so may be OK but as I say I'll have to see the finished room before I can give an opinion. My interpretation of colours is rubbish, I'd never make an interior designer   ;D

I intend using a baseboard at the foot of the wall, was going to paint it same colour as the wall. I'm not keen on white trim but a brown is worth thinking about in the event of a colour clash.
The acoustic panels are black so we'll lose a lot of the wall colour. My thoughts are to get the acoustics right then cover the walls with fabric over the top of the panels. In the mean time i just want it to look reasonable.
Thanx for your thoughts.

Hi JH, unfortunately the carpet colour is set, it's been wrapped up for 15 months & until I roll it out I probably won't get a proper understanding of the colour. I'm not so sure I would appreciate dark grey walls but I'm fairly open minded & will look at all options once the acoustics are sorted   :).

I noticed those bulkhead around, you don't intend to have small cove to run rope/LED light as added feature aside from spot light at the underside?

The light points seem off-center from the width of bulkhead, considering also the thickness of acoustic panels + fabric cover over the panels. Or it was just visual distortion in the pictures.

I think for future upgrade/add-on, provision for projection and wide-screen mount should be considered also.

I never knew it's called bulkhead.  ;D  I also have a bulkhead in my theatre room, and as you mentioned, installed LED ropelights. You can also run speaker wires, HDMI (for PJ) etc inside the bulkhead. I also installed mirrors at the main wall behind the bulkhead. It makes the ceiling bigger plus i had some spares mirrors.  ^-^

Bulkhead is common term used in construction as over-head structure. Other disciplines call it as drop-ceiling (simplified) which is lower than the main ceiling height.  ;D

Well spotted audiojunkie, the lights are off center to the underside panel but in the center of the boxed in section above & the centers are 7.5" from the wall. The underside overhangs the bulkhead (I call it a soffit) by 3" & has a 2" uplift at the edge. I already have the LED rope lighting to add after decoration. I have strengthened the ceiling to take a future projector & screen mount so hopefully I've got all bases covered.
Thanx for the advice.

I'm the same Nelson, I've always called it a soffit but bulkhead is probably a more accurate term.
Nice idea with the mirrors, I'd never of thought of that. :)

It's less than 12 inches from ceiling to bulkhead.

Ok if you take reference the cross section of the bulkhead from wall corner to edge. Soffit is a common term that refers to underside surface like slab or ceiling....

I associate bulkhead with a vertical structure such as a panel that give form or bulk to an outer shell or hull. Examples are boats and air planes. They give bulk so to speak and establish the shell's overall shape. I don't see any bulkhead in this room.
