sir madyaw,

the #1 reason why i bought AMX Aria is for economic reason.

i have Topping TP-20 Mark2, used it to drive MA Chr70a.3 during burning-in period & for low volume listening. SQ is pretty good up to 11o'clock, beyond that, it doesn't have enough juice to drive the speakers to it's potential. I have also AMX Forte Tungsol 6550, but it's overkill not to mention the power it sucks from meralco.

enter AMX Aria EL84, 4-5watter SE amps. max i can turn the volume knob is 9.5o'clock, otherwise it'll overdrive 4incher drivers. SQ, nice mids, sparkling highs and solid bottom end.

now i understand what master tony is always saying "i stopped counting watts & started enjoying the music"

i think this pairing will last 'til the next project -Alpair 10P....

thanks for asking.

fred

i have a line magnetic class a set amp pushing 3 watts thats why i'm quite interested with ma chr-70 anyway, i will let you know once i tried the set up. i'm waiting for the floorstander which brad chorus will send me. tnx a lot!

go pull the trigger sir  ;)

This is why I suggest to those planning to try MA drivers to opt for Alpairs (7.3, 10.3/10P & 12P). Yes, they are much more expensive but truly worth it. I'm not dissing the CHRs, they are very capable drivers, what I'm saying is it would be more economical to go straight to the higher models & spare yourselves the sleepless nights thinking of "what ifs" and then upgrade later on...but that's just my 2 cents, either way i'm sure you won't be disappointed if you plan everything & do it right.

Bro, I've tried my 10Ps with Miniwatt EL84 3.5wpc, my home office is roughly 17sqm and it was filled with lush & laid back music @ 10 o'clock then @ 1 o'clock noticed some clipping. YMMV.

What you said makes sense. It is also good to know that your Miniwatt could handle the 10P.

I was planning to buy the Miniwatt EL84 & good thing a friend was kind enough to loan it to me for a few days...in the end I decided to go ahead with my original plan which is to DIY a tube amp (EL34/KT88), I ordered the traffo, OPTs, choke & motor run caps from Edrel, all the other parts are in SG right now & will arrive end of this month  ;)

What you said makes sense. It is also good to know that your Miniwatt could handle the 10P.

Why do I say it will be more economical to get the expensive Alpair compared to the much cheaper CHR?The initial price difference you will encounter is just for the drivers BUT the cost of building the box (pencils for example) will not be that far apart for both driver models as the difference in the enclosure dimensions is not dramatic.

Let's also consider the resale value, DIY is a project mostly out of love & thrill of building something with your own hands. Audio hobbyists esp pinoys are brand conscious, Mark Audio is not a mainstream product, you have to accept as early as now that you will lose significant amount of money if you plan to sell your item in the future compared to reselling well known brand of spakers.

I agree with you. Back when I was deep into RC helicopters, I tried selling my Anthony made Fostex simply because it wasn't used. My price went ridiculously low. No grabbers. I was glad nobody bought it. It's back in service and with a vengeance!

Here I also notice that DIY speakers easily lose up to 40% list price. Practically a loss proposition to buy or go DIY.

Spot on that DIY is for the love of it. My speakers weren't cheap then. But I was able to have them built to my design. It was spot on with what I wanted. No wonder I am still enjoying them 10 years later.

may nagpaparating ba ng MA dito?  Feasible din ba yung similar config as JoeyGS but will instead use Alpair 10M Gold and Alpair 12P? or better kung parehong 10M?

What drivers did JoeyGS use? I too like the cabinets made by Timber. Not a day goes by that I don't look back a page or two to look at them at least once.

Hi Gino .....  I used the CHR70.3 - Champagne and Silver color combination.  Their are both the same drivers.

If ever you would go for the same enclosure, birch ply (19mm)  is preferred so that you would not worry on the wall resonance.  Of course, panel thickness is also critical.  If you are to use ordinary plywood or thinner thickness, you will be using a lot of damping material (apart from the stuffing material) and also internal bracing will have to be added.  So using inferior plywood quality may give you savings up front but cost of damping and bracing will be added, negating the perceived savings.

The Pensil enclosure that I have used was supposed to be a very simple build.  Using the right wood will really make it simple.  In my case, using birch ply, I just added stuffing and its done.

Tubes & coupling caps for my diy tube amp project to be paired with my MA speakers.

experiment lang. :)
meron na kasi ako AN FR na single driver. try ko naman dual driver.  Or pwede din kaya passive radiator yung isa? pag di maganda result, balik na lang sa single driver design.

Sometimes I get parcels delivered to my house too. Rarely. These are items that they deem not worth taxing and come in flat packs. so for small items, have vendor ship in a padded mailer envelope.

They don't do this regularly. Only when they feel like it.

The QC post office had been revamped lately. The items were assigned to different claim windows. Separate yung to be taxed sa hindi.
