San Miguel 2-0 under their Active Consultant Purves and Puppet Head Coach Ravanes despite playing w/0 the Kraken Fajardo.
So far the Beermen are responding well to the 2 new coaches.

lets hope they wont choke in the end.sana naman they wont disappoint this conference

Two despicable things ........ 1.) SMCorp bares its dirty hands once again ...... 2.) Politikos with nothing better to do than magpa-pogi sa media

SMCorp wins again & the trapo gets his 15 minutes of fame ...... talo ang basketball fans & honest tax-paying citizens.

Both players had already served the country before with Gilas 1 under Toroman.
I don't think it's a good gesture forcing them to play again since it's not certain that both will make the team for the World Cup.

Alaska seems to be bent on defending their title. They're making mid-season moves which is so unlike them. They traded for Vic Manuel and now they picked up Ritualo from free agency. The Ritualo signing is both good for Alaska and Ritualo. Ren-Ren has a shot at getting minutes since Baguio is the only SG they're using now after moving Hontiveros to the SF spot.

Oh, and it's another delivery courtesy of Air1.

I'm so sure both Slaughter and Lassiter have the blessings of the San Miguel Group not to join the National pool for the FIBA World Cup.
Both would have follow if Management insist on their participations.

Di pa nga interesting yung games. I watched the Ginebra vs TNT game live last  Sunday. Mas nag-enjoy pa ako sa asaran ng group of Ginebra fans and two TNT fans. Nagkahamunan ng suntukan! haha

Anyway, was sitting near courtside and naririnig ko si Slaughter tinatry nyang i-intimidate sila Alapag and Castro to take the ball inside. Panay taunt nya na "Come here! Come here!" haha

Tapos medjo may luto yung game na yun. Sobrang obvious yung out of bounds call against Ginebra when it was clear na TnT player last humawak ng bola at nasa harap pa mismo ng referee nangyari.

Not much noteworthy games ...... sa end of the eliminations and playoffs nagsisimula ang magagandang match-ups.

Kasi naman, palaging pinagyayabang ng PBA commentators (e.g. Webb, Halili, etc) ang PARITY sa PBA ..... yet every conference, the same old teams always get eliminated (read: SMCorp farm teams BARAKO, AIR21 & GPORT) and the non-farm teams contend, at least in the playoffs.

There will be no true parity in the PBA as long as SMCorp farm teams exist and SMCorp/MVP teams violate the salary cap rules.

agree. very hesitant, lately.

mas maganda pa yata na mag-all filipino na lang ang ginebra for most of the games eh. pang-sub na lang ung import pag pagod na si japeth o si slaughter. for such a very heralded import, he ranks number 7 in both FG and 3-point percentage.

Simply put, Japeth Aguilar is the typical tweener - one who CANNOT create his own shot.

When the defense makes the game slow down, tweeners like Japeth will usually find it hard to score ...... moreso in an import-laden conference.

Easy money. haha

Again after so many attempts by the San Miguel group installing 2 respectives coaches to call the shots for both Ginebra and San Miguel don't seem to work.
I really don't know what they are trying to prove insisting on that type of strategic coaching system.
I'm so sure they've seen the successful results by San Mig Coffee under the tenure of Coach Tim Cone or do they just manipulating it to be in control of those coaches for the purpose of gambling the outcome of the games.

For the longest time, the biggest problem with SMCorp has been those guys in-charge of their basketball operations - namely Noli "Loverboy" Eala & Robert "Caloy Alde"Non.

Both have zero knowledge of basketball, thus they do the only thing they know - SPEND massive amounts of money hiring all the available coaches (regardless of qualification) & hoarding bluechip players and draft picks (regardless of fair play and salary cap rules).

Perhaps, the only "right" thing Eala ever did was to pirate Tim Cone from ALASKA ...... of course, the only reason that Tim Cone considered leaving ALASKA, was the fact that he could no longer compete with such brazen practices from SMCorp - if you cant beat them, join them.

See Rafe Bartholomew's very candid Tim Cone interview from years back.

Outsider kasi si Tim Cone. He made a name outside SMC. Hindi SMC ang bumuhay sa kanya kaya he can make demands. Pag umalma sila, sipa agad. Like Danny Ildefonso.

The problem with Ginebra right now isn't really coaching. Players nila ang problema. Walang gana at gigil maglaro tapos yung import nila, di bagay sa kanila. They should have gone with a wing player as import instead of a post player. Like the import of Air21 right now.

San Miguel naman is doing pretty good.

More importantly, Tim Cone actually knows what he's doing and has a closet full of hardware (championships) to show for it ...... his demand for autonomy upon signing with Eala is totally expected.

So, it looks like BGK will cave-in to fan reaction and will replace their import ........ ;D

What matters is consistency. San Miguel and Ginebra played good basketball from time to time but they just can't finish the season with a championship.
I don't know why Ramon Ang is letting these shuffling of players and coaches happen with the 2 teams which clearly don't display good results unlike that of Tim Cone and San Mig Coffee.

Josh Powell is Ginebra 's New Import to Replace Leon Rodgers in PBA Commissioner's Cup 2014

Quote
Fresh from playing in China, Josh Powell, a 2-Time NBA Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, is getting ready to fly here in the Philippines to serve as the replacement of Barangay Ginebra import Leon Rodgers. He is expected to arrive in our country tomorrow (Tuesday).

Exactly. PBA rules clearly state a $20,000/month salary cap on imports.

Josh Powell is clearly a "name" import owing to his NBA pedigree ...... siguradong may under-the-table-deal na naman itong SMCorp - with the blessing of Comm. Cheato Salud of course.

Note: A few conferences ago, another ex-LAKER DJ Mbenga was unsuccessfully recruited by ALASKA ...... Mbenga wanted way more than the $20,000/month salary and ALASKA strictly follows the rules. A few weeks later, it was revealed that SMCorp farm team BARAKO BULL got Mbenga's services.  ;)

Regardless of how much the San Miguel group wants to pay for a Super Import, if it still doesn't bring them a Championship eh wala rin kwenta. Actually it's at their own risk.
Just like how they tried foreign coaches in Toroman and now Purves.

Whether it brings a championship or not, it still doesn't change the fact that SMCorp doesn't follow the league salary cap rules ...... for both locals & imports.

ALASKA team owner Fred Uytengsu said it best - back when Joe Devance demanded to be traded to another team ...... "Why does Joe Devance want to leave, when he’s earning P350,000 a month and coming off a championship? Isn’t our P350,000 as good as the other team’s P350,000? It’s the same P350,000."

Joe Devance was already receiving the league max salary. He was also a serious MVP contender that year, so he wasn't lacking for minutes or exposure either ...... they were coming off a championship, so he was with a contender as well ...... yet he still demanded to be traded to another team.  ;)

==================================================================

RIP Bryan Gahol ...... not a PBA superstar, but played the game the right way.

More casualties caused by these trucks, jeepneys & other ragtag vehicles on the road.  >:(
