Yesterday, I auditioned the bookshelves of Q-Acoustics at AVShop in Makati. Gelo was very helpful and accommodating. I sought his help for a Home Theater Speaker System with a budget of 25k to 35k w/o subs (P50k total if with subs). The ff. were setup:
2020i for front
2000ci for center
2010i for rear
2070i as subs
AT A GLANCE
These are very nice-looking speakers with glossy finish. They exude quality and elegance. Put them in your living room, crank up the volume, and your guests will be very impressed.
CINEMA
For cinema, we challenged the set with Saving Private Ryan, Transformers 1 and 3. I could clearly hear the bullets flying around me in Saving Private Ryan and Transformers, immersing me into the action. Dialogue were clear and I didn't miss a word. What was lacking was the heart-pounding thumps during explosions, but it may be too much to expect given this form factor.
AUDIO
For audio, we played David Foster & Friends, as well as The Eagles Concert. Some singer's voices (like Katharine McPhee) were too bright so we tweaked the amplifier setting. The Eagles Concert played better and it was a joy to listen to their guitars and drums. In both DVDs, I found the vocals a bit thin ... comparable to Monitor Audio's MR bookshelf 5.1, but disadvantaged compared to setups with floorstanding front speakers (Monitor Audio MR Series, Mission MV Series) of equivalent or lower price tags. But overall, I enjoyed the audio.
[By the way, at one point we were listening to The Eagles so loud that another visitor couldn't believe the music was coming out from those small speakers. That's how clear these speakers deliver.]
OVERALL
Overall, I find the Q-Acoustics setup above a great option for those who need this form factor.
DISCLAIMER
Since different people will have different needs and observations, I encourage those who are interested in these speakers to audition it themselves. The people in AVShop are certainly very accommodating.
