Boston jacked up 45 three point shots and converted 8 (18%) in tonight's game against the Nets.  Tatum, Smart and Brown combined for 4 out of 22 in 3 point accuracy.

Opposing teams' game plan for Boston: Just let them shoot from distance.

Gasol looked like a huge liability in that Suns game. Dude is slow AF and cant barely jump. Always gets left in rotation.

oo, sya magpapabagal ng lakers. pero for sure gagamitin lang to pag kailangan. pag less fastbreak team kalaban malaking threat itong si marc.ma spread nya ang floor at the same time ang passing ability nya on top of the key..

The total amount doesn't really reflect a player's skills.  Gobert stayed with the team that drafted him. So he was eligible for the max contract.  While Davis decided to leave New Orleans.  If he hadn't, AD would have been eligible to sign for $228M/5yrs.  It's not really a "massive overpay" but a question of eligibility.  Davis wanted to be traded to the Lakers, so he lost his eligibility to sign a supermax contract.

Just stating facts to keep it in perspective.   ;D

Like I said it's a question of eligibility.  AD would certainly overshadow Gobert in terms of salary if he was eligible for the supermax contract.   May sinabi ba ako bawal?   ;D.  Pero parang bawal para sayo to disagree.   ;)

This is a common scenario in the NBA ........... teams will max-out their own star, even though said player is not (yet) among the elite or top-tier stars in the league.

May halong swerte na din itong si Gobert - may new ownership ang JAZZ, they needed to show they value their own stars ........ kahit na over-pay, relative to his peers.

That's a clear overpay IMHO.  A well ran organization will not max out a player just because one is eligible to get such a contract.  It should be based on his foreseeable role and productivity under the contract years.

Well its not surprising. Utah has another player in Mike Conley whose salary is an astronomic 34M this year.  Granted that they didn't give that contract to him (Memphis) but the Utah Jazz organization traded for him and swallowed that albatross contract.  He puts up 14 points per night and couldn't stop the man  he is guarding from scoring at will because he is so undersized.

Mahusay ang Jazz sa cap management hahahaha

At this day and age where the premium is outside shooting and versatility, Gobert is a dinosaur. Just look at how Jokic made a mockery of his so called defense during the bubble.  26/8/5 lang naman for the entire series while shooting 48% from three.

i agree with you in terms of Gobert maybe not worth what the Jazz paid him.  the Jazz panicked, they had to beat the deadline to extend him otherwise he becomes a UFA at the end of the 2021 season.

but i like the extension in the sense that the supermax provisions in the CBA are working.  it's keeping the players with the teams that drafted them (Giannis, Mitchell and Gobert)

Like I said the contract amount does not reflect Gobert's skills.  So overpay talaga.  But is it a "massive overpay" and "robbery"?  He was eligible for a max contract compared to AD who could have signed for $228M if he stayed with the Pelicans.

They should have tendered a more realistic offer in line to the reality of his role and his production for the next four years. If he didn't sign the extension then risk din nya yun. What if he gets injured this year?  Parang Boogie lang yan all over again. He cannot under perform din naman because that will affect his offers for next year.

I agree...nag panic ang Utah big time.

from ESPN

"For me, my goal is to always win a championship," said Gobert, who has a player option for the fifth season of the deal. "When we spoke with my agent before the negotiations started, I decided that I didn't want to ask for the supermax. We didn't want to start the negotiations by asking for the supermax. For me, it was important to show to the organization and show to the team that it wasn't about money. It was about continuing to build what we've been building and also give this team and give myself the stability and the peace of mind to not have to deal with the negotiations later.

"I want to win, and I feel like leaving this money on the table for the team just to be able to have better talent around me and Donovan was really important. I want to win, and I believe in this group and I believe in this organization, and I was willing to leave that money on the table for them."

Way to go Jazz.....Give him what he didnt ask for.

Utah already offered him the max contract offer which Gobert declined as he wanted the Supermax. Utah panicked...  By signing Gobert to a supermax, they're basically gambling that they can win with this core which is basically the same one they rolled with last year.

Kung ako GM ng Utah, I wouldn't have given him the Supermax, see how the season plays out.  They still could have signed Gobert during the season for a max contract.  There's also an option to trade him during the season as a rental to contending teams for friendlier assets

Gobert actually didn't get the supermax. It was a max extension.

They could call it whatever they like but for me its not a wise move to tie up that much money for what he can do.
