Gobert actually didn't get the supermax. It was a max extension.

nope

he was offered a max extension, but he wanted a super max extension.  may range ang super max extension, di yan fixed amount. he got $205M which is less than the highest amount a super max can pay ($228M), but still way more than the max for a standard extension ($148M)

My understanding is the supermax is equivalent to 35% of the cap with an 8% increase annually.  What Gobert got was around 30/31% of the cap.

Quote
The deal falls short of the “supermax” contract Gobert was eligible for. The $205 million total reflects a compromise between the 30% of the cap maximum most players with Gobert’s experience can earn and the 35% of the cap that the supermax would represent — the five-year, $228 million commitment that Giannis Antetokounmpo signed with the Milwaukee Bucks last week. Gobert’s deal represents about 31.5% of the cap over the course of the contract.

I'm more comfortable with the Mitchel extension since you can clearly see that the guy has tons of upside in him for the next 4 years (ave 36ppg while shooting 53%/2 and 51% from 3 in the Denver series).  For Rudy Gobert I really feel that he has already hit his ceiling as a player.  He has zero offensive moves developed in the last 2 to 3 years.  The defensive prowess will be there every night but teams nowadays will just bomb them long range to mute that defense of his.  The game plan of Denver exposed that.  Jokic took 46 - 3 point attempts in that series and made 22. When Gobert started chasing him in the perimeter then Murray took over and wreaked havoc inside the paint.

Much focus was given to the Clippers for blowing a 3-1 lead but Utah did the same as well and now they are tying up more and more money to the same roster.

They better be ready for the LBJ - AD tandem in the playoffs.  If AD shoots the lights out from three how can they stop LBJ from the inside with Gobert guarding AD? Natalo nga sila ng Murray - Jokic tandem eh yung AD - LBJ is a monster version of that duo.

I agree ... there's just one difference on the 3-1 that Utah blew ... it was that one mistake from Mitchell where he got an 8 second penalty from bringing the ball up so slow, it was an unforced error and could have prevented the OT on that game ... the Clippers really choked

kasi nga he didn't get the maximum salary for the designated veteran player extension (aka "supermax") contract.  the supermax contract allows teams to pay eligible players UP TO 35% of the salary cap.  he only got 30% of the salary cap which he would not have gotten under the standard max extension.

in other words, super max contract pa rin siya, di lang sinagad sa maximum

A   Players with between 0-6 years of experience are eligible for a max contract worth 25 percent of the salary cap
B   Players with between 7-9 years of experience are eligible for a max contract worth 30 percent of the salary cap
C   Players with 10-plus years of experience are eligible for a super-max deal worth 35 percent of the salary cap

If guided by the above, Gobert got the maximum allowed under the standard max contract.  Not the supermax.

I remember that bro. Costly error by Mitchel.  Panalo na sana sila nun eh pero despite the error the guy made his team competitive all series long.  36PPG with efficiency in every aspect of his shooting.  Those are Jordan/Kobe numbers.  His next step in his evolution is improving his defense (Murray scored 36, 50, 42 50 in games 1, 4, 5 and 6 with Mitchel as the primary defender) and making others better

that's still the standard max contract rules.  Gobert was drafted in 2013, same as Giannis so they're still in the first tier.  Giannis and Gobert were entitled to the supermax because of the 2017 CBA which created additional criteria for the supermax (i.e. MVP or Defensive Player of the Year).  Giannis became entitled because he won MVP, Gobert because he won defensive player of the year.

Yes sir I was pointing out the standard max contract rules.  Didn't Gobert just conclude his 7th season and thus now belongs to the second tier?

OT: Sports Illustrated’s scouting report on Kai Sotto and the Ignite team which played two scrimmages against G League players recently.

https://www.si.com/nba/2020/12/21/g-league-ignite-scouting-jalen-green-jonathan-kuminga

The spotlight was on Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, projected to be among the top five picks in the next draft. Regarding Kai Sotto, here’s what SI has to say:

“As for Sotto, it looks like the 7' 2" Philippines native is facing an uphill battle as he tries to scale his game up to the professional level, where he’ll have to find a way to impact the game without being fed touches. Sotto has some appreciable skill and shooting touch for his size, but he’s slow-footed and gets lost easily in an up-tempo game. He did well by not forcing much in these scrimmages, but his lack of physical strength made it tough for him to make a difference as a screen-setter or rebounder. Sotto’s heavy feet and slow reaction time will be an issue defending ball screens, which is a must for any player his size trying to survive as a situational piece at the NBA level. It’s going to take him some time to parlay his legitimate size into meaningful contributions, and, if he’s drafted, much like (Isaiah) Todd, it will come in a developmental context.”

It’s going to be challenging for Kai to stand out here especially since he’s also playing with such high-profile teammates. But there’s still time for him to improve. The G League season will reportedly start in January/February.
We deserve better.

He shouldn't look for or expect anything out of his first year in the G League, heck, even on his second year.  It will take time for him to get better and for his body to mature.  It's better to be patient than for him to become a flash in the pan or be a 2nd round imitation of Greg Oden or Darko Milicic.

Steve Nash’s Brooklyn Nets is playing a lot like D’Antoni’s Suns. Might as well turn off their shot clock :D

Game changer talaga ang injury. Mas nakakalamang pa ang team na di loaded ng superstar pero healthy lahat ng players. Di pa nakakabawi ang GSW since ma injure si KD and Klay

Ganun pa din sa Kuzma, asintahan pa din ng opponent, parang namimitas lang ng puntos sa kanya si PG13. Si Caruso wala din ginawang maganda except isang tres. Meron pa siguro hangover sa championship nila.

Nice game by the Lakeshow though they came up short.  Harrel and Shroder tandem looks like a winner.  Gasol is a huge liability in this game. Lets see if they will bounce back against Dallas
