There are a lot of shops at the pier, including the big ones that I personally know of, that do have busted drivers not just reconed but also rewound. By looking at the surround of the big drivers, check if the foam is very fresh. If it looks fairly new, check also the edge of the surround on the cone, pag may maitim na circumference sa loob, sign yan nung rugby na ginamit pandikit Try pushing the driver in, tignan kung matigas pa ang surrounds. To be sure na di nakalikot, try getting exotic design na drivers. Para sigurado di makalikot dahil walang pampalit dito.
This is a good tip ...
Further,
Take note of the models first and then research in the internet about the models before going back for testing and haggling. This is to familiarize how the original drivers looks like. (not all models are available in the internet though).
check the screws of all the drivers - are they all the same or similar? dapat! may kulang ba, o naibang screw (also at the back which usually is the opening of the eraly speaker systems) - di dapat!
The surround - if it is a good-looking foam surround - then it is new one (altered na). If not, check unusual glue in its vicinity. A clean surround vicinity (no unsighty dried glue nearby) indicated untouched surround. Typically, look for speakers that used treated cloth surround or the rubber surround - these are labelled indestructible surround materials. Diatone, technics almost always use this type. Onkyo & pioneer typically uses foam type which degrades overtime (but not all models though) and really requires replacement.
The dust cap, check if there is also an unsighty dried glue in its vicinity - the presence indicate a possible rewound coil.
Check all drivers identical to Left & right. I have encounters na hindi halata, but in close inspection, the HF drivers are not the original (turned out to be the Konzert brand which can be bought sa raon) - this is visual inspection, and I mean open your eyes with close scrutiny to every detail.
Listen. with 1 speaker at a time - at low volume - checking the sound of each driver by placing your ear close to each driver - observe smoothness of sound from midrange and tweeters. Then at loud volume, checking same loudness emanates from both speakers and no crackling sound whatsoever.
Speakers which seems to have a lot of dust in the drivers is also a good indicator that the units are untouched.
Play with MID and HI controls if it respond to the rotation.
Lastly, if you are satisfied with the sound it reproduce using your familiar CD materials, then you have your best bet in your hands.
