I hope they package it nicely to give those who already own the "theatrical cut" more of an incentive to get this release.. I thought I saw a Donnie Darko Limited Ed tin somewhere, was that Korean or from the EU? I hope they consider something like that  ;D

Would you know how much longer the Director's Cut is, Hem?  :)

i got Donnie Darko for $10. it has the extended and deleted scenes.

in the Director's cut, they reinserted those deleted and extended scenes.
the documentary itself must be worth the cost, hopefully.

If that's the case then I guess it wouldn't be that much of an incentive to get it, I'm perfectly happy with the theatrical cut the way it is, but then again that's just me..  ;D Hmm.. maybe this release had something to do with them re-releasing this in theaters recently?  :)

updates from
digitalbits

Quick update on a Fox title we talked about a while back. Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut is set to street on 2/15. The information on the studio's press site incorrectly indicated that the running time for this cut was 253. The final running time for the cut is actually 132 minutes (FYI, the theatrical cut run time is 113 minutes). It's possible the 253 number refers to the feature and the extras. The final list of supplements for the 2-disc set is as follows: audio commentary with writer/director Richard Kelly and director Kevin Smith, Donnie Darko Production Diary with optional commentary by DP Steven Poster, They Made Me Do it Too: The Cult of Donnie Darko featurette, storyboard-to-screen video, #1 Fan: A Darkomentary  featurette and a director's cut theatrical trailer.

Am I correct in assuming that the Kevin Smith on the commentary track is the same Kevin Smith of Viewaskew fame? Did he like, co-produce the movie or something? Interesting..  ;)

Original edit might be worth keeping after all even after this new release is acquired..  ;D

Been looking all over for this thread. Whew.

Anyway, I'll be ordering this soon. Can't decide between the theatrical version, which will only cost $10, or the Director's Cut, which is double the price.

For those who have the Director's Cut, is it worth it?

well it depends, if you still want a mind-boggling version, then stick with the theatrical... if you want answers for those that boggles you, go director's cut... i have both. i'm not saying the director's cut is not good, but i still found the theatrical... well... mind-boggling...

for me, its the collectible/price factor since the director's cut I aquired was the Limited Edition TIN
