Philip's DNM Technology Coming to HTPCs
« on: Nov 21, 2004 at 12:05 AM »
Just read an article on the Net that says that Philips has recently licensed its Digital Natural Motion (DNM) Technology to third parties.  DNM Technology supposedly powers WinDVD 6 of Intervideo, a PC software company. ]

Any feedback from our HTPC enthusiasts out there?

What is the promised benefits of this new DNM technology?  Just a bit intrigued by the name, suggesting perhaps that what we have been seeing on the PC all along is "unnatural." ;D

I hope they cross-license it to other LCD manufacturers...

I just saw a Philips DNM demo clip at the mall.  Quite impressive.  It's the first time I've ever seen a judder-free slow pan on a flat panel TV.

I asked the rep about DNM's "judder-free motion".  The poor fellow didn't have a clue ...  he didn't even know what "judder" means.  I wouldn't have minded if not for the fact that judder was the topic being discussed and demoed on the demo video clip playing on his demo Philips unit.  :-\

"Hindi mo yata pinapanood yung video mo?", I asked with a smile.  "Hindi sir, e."  he replied politely, but without the slightest trace of embarrassment.  ;)

This is dated. However, I would like to ask if someone has come across an implementation like this via software.

Corel's WinDVD (formerly InterVideo WinDVD) started to implement DNM (Trimention DNM) feature since WinDVD 6.
