AVR regulates voltage against voltage fluctuations (ups & downs). Fluctuations can damage your gears over a long period of time.

Line conditioners like the one above have surge protection, to protect your gears against surge (sudden up! or high voltage. Power surges can damage your gears instantly!

FACT: most voltage regulators DO NOT HAVE surge protection.
