btw my only complaint is, the remote control cannot adjust the volume of my speakers, i have to adjust it on my speakers

What's the brand of your TV?  The DVD remote can act as a TV remote for TV brands: LG,Goldstar, Sony, Samsung, Hitachi and Zenith.

There is a LG ad in today's issue (page A11) of Philippine Daily Inquirer. Featured are this model and DK9821N. They lowered the price from the original P4999 to P4499 for the DK9934N; and from P4499 to P3999 for the DK9821N. The ad says promo is from August to October.

Maybe "N" on the model numbers refer to NTSC and "P" on other countries' to PAL ???

Got a chance to try this player out. It handles both QPEL and GMC well but it won't play OGG files like the Philips 5500.  I was really tempted to buy it but just decided to wait out until a new player in this price range is available that can also support OGG files (hopefully MKV too) as my Philips 642 is still okay.

I have just given my LG player a pDVD marathon...and it played some of the bootleg DVDs I have that used to skip, flawlessly. Don't know if that's something to crow about, pero at least I'm assured na kaya nya basahin mga inexpensive alternatives ;) na nabibili natin.

SA DVD-Rs naman, I played some Tagalog and Hentai DVD-rs(Bounce with Regine T, SeX in RP Cinema, Dark Shell and Bible Black) and all played without a hitch. No skipping or anything encountered.

So far, so good. LOL

Hi Battousai,

Just wanted to confirm, it does have a built-in  DTS/DD decoder already, right?  Can you provide a pic of the remote?  While I'm at it, maybe a pic of the back of the player too?   ;D TIA.

Not really an HT-expert, but if by DTS/DD decoder ay may sangkatutak na audio out sa likod in one frame, yes, meron nun.

As for the remote, this is the best picture I can give of my remote. Sorry at wala ako digital camera.

Guys, is this player as "sensitive" as the Philips 642, when it comes to decoding and playing DiVx files?

I have some 700MB/episode files of TV shows from the net, which has a resolution of 960x528. The 642 will not play it and along with my other files which have a DTS tracks. I also have some files which are 800x336 in resolution which the Philips 642 displays incorrectly (actually the clip appears cut on the sides-wont fit on TV).

My question can this LG player do any of the above things that the Philips 642 cannot? I really appreciate anyone's inputs.

Standard definition DivX certified players like the LG DK-9934N will only play non-HD sources up to 720x480 (or 720x576 in this case for PAL material). Those are the standard settings when encoding using the DivX Home Theater Profile. Anything higher is out of spec hence the compatibility errors. Even the (very) generic Fukuda 881 is strictly DivX compliant by virtue of its ESS Vibratto II chipset. Much to my disappointment, it refused to play HD resolution DivX files.

Thanks.  I'm considering in buying one, lalo na kung may 0% installment.   Medyo out of budget ang pioneer eh.

To all owners, feeback naman kung hindi talaga mapili sa disk.  My generic player is starting to act up lalo na kung "low budget" ;) ang dvd.

Thanks ulit.

Maybe "N" on the model numbers refer to NTSC and "P" on other countries' to PAL ???

this might be true, coz as far as the specs of DK9943N, signal system is NTSC.

Been playing loads of xvids using etop DVD-R and played without a hitch. Cool to be able to fit in like 6 to 7 movies in one DVD.

Watched Smallville, 2 DVDs (each about 12 episodes) per season, all in xvid format. really cool player!

So N does not stand for NTSC?   ;D

I'm really starting to like this player more and more.  :D

Not necessarily. I was referring to the country/countries that use(s) the system "NTSC" where the particular model is sold. So may be DK9934N are sold in countries that use NTSC sustem and the DK9934P to countries that use PAL.

i went to the nearest SM Home Appliance center... hoping to see this player in action. unfortunately, walang stock na open for demo. :(

i did however score the brochure with the techsheet... i'm really impressed.

SM is selling it for 4,495pesos ... cash price. ( a little bit more expensive than some places but at least the store is less than 3km away )  ;)

Any comments/feedback about the unit's JPEG viewer? Thanks.

While I haven't tried it out on "real" pictures, I was able to use my player to view manga scans of Slam Dunk.

Maganda naman sya, and thank goodness for the zoom function kasi maliit minsan word bubbles sa manga na yun.

Hello,

Im seriously considering this player. However, unlike Philips and Pioneer, no website nor brochure says anything about this LG's DAC.

1. Anyone knows about its DAC specifications?
2. How is this player's Audio CD only performance?

Any information is appreciated,

Thanks
