akyatbundok-
Your 1200mk2 will run circles around that Numark. The 1200 is still the choice table of DJs. You can get the replacement N55E stylus from Audiophile in Pioneer St or Makati Cinema Sq. for P570.

Just clean the surface with a soft cloth moistened with soap and water. Anything stronger and you might rub out the letterings. A 2nd hand 1200 is usually well worn, but still keeps everything in sync. The front right portion of its top is usually worn from cueing. That's ok. I've seen some 1200's wherein the surface has been repainted. Ughhh...sacrilege! Just leave it the way it is. It is a 1200mk2 afterall. Enjoy the music. You have THE 'TABLE of all turntables. Many audiophiles are dying to own a 1200mk2. The mk1 was so-so. It's the mk2 version which put Technics on the forefront of professional turntables.

I used to own a beat up 1200mk2 also, till it went out of sync and died...  :(  May it rest in peace(or pieces). I was able to get a 1200Mk3 after! 8) Yes! This is one 'table I will never let go off. It's a keeper. I use a Shure M44-7cart & M44 stylus. The N55E is the cheaper replacement stylus.

hey thanks stereophile, the owner said he was a former mobile DJ so i guess its been thru a lot... so that's why he says he's "heartbroken" for letting go of this baby... i didn't quite understand it when i first saw its condition, i almost didn't buy it coz it looked so beat up... but disregarding the dirt/dust & scratches and some missing parts, it has a very heavy & solid feel that is very different from a CD deck... is the chassis made of steel?  the aluminum cover also seems kinda thick... its my first time to have a turntable thanks to you guys... i was contemplating on a 2nd hand CD player but decided to give this a try since it costs about the same or cheaper.

Sirs:

I have two direct drive, linear tracking turntables (SL-10 and SL-DL1) which need repairs.  Where can I send them for repair?  Thanks a lot in advance.

Medyo mahirap makakita ng repair shop who can do turntables, much more direct-drives, even more so for  tangential trackers.  You could bring them to the basement of Makati Cinema Square where I saw some dealers of turntables, i thing fronting Sensible Audio.  They can either do it or recommend one.

ALL of the above,

You forgot the Tonearm.

The cartridge can be perfect, but if the tonearm  + cartridge interaction is not, you get problems.

The cartridge and tonearm can be perfect but if the turntable has defective motor, you get rumble noise that totally cancels the cartridge + tonearm advantage.

The TT mechanicals can be perfect but if the electronics courstesy of the phono EQ preamp is so much as not properly grounded, you will hear all HUM and little else.

Just like to share...

We had a turntable before. Brand is Grundig. I still remember my dad using that turntable to play his LP's from Beatles, Rey Valera, Pilita Corrales, "Stars on 45". It was bought mga late 70's daw (2nd hand). I don't know wala pa ko malay noon.
Until it conked out during the late 80's. Hindi na napagawa. Wala daw piyesa.

You know what amazed me? To find Technics and Numark Turntables in the mid to the late 90's look the same as our Grundig Turntable in the late 70's.

Modern Looking in the 70's age.

Actually it's not a turntable per se.

It is a "compact component system" - with tuner and cassette deck in one. I did not know what part had been damaged. But it went to many repair centers and was not able to be fixed. Until my dad decided to dispose it in the early 90's.

Grundig was a fine name on Audio equipment...until it was bought out by Philips...and during its golden age...B&O can't match its design because its highly stylish and contemporary.

Sayang nga lang....the brand now is nearing its death.
We don't know if the German government can save it, after they re-purchase it from Philips.

The Goldring GR-1 has the same features as the NAD 533 ttable save for a few cosmetic changes to the plinth. They both use the Elektra 'cart!

I agree. I used to marvel at our neigbor's large Grundig shortwave/Am/FM radio.  I didn't know they also make turntables.

back during the golden days of radiowealth of the guevarra family, they used grundigs for their top models of console stereos

Wow.

Ok pala talaga GRUNDIG.

That time marami nga nagsasabi na maganda nga daw tumunog GRUNDIG namin especially if we had visitors.

They were amazed. If I remember it right, it was connected to a DAI-ICHI Floorstander.

my dirty, beat-up and indestructible Technics SL1200mk2.

its not much to look at with all the dirt, but once you lift it and get a feel of the gears, you know it can outlast your next 5 CD players.

Try to research on the Lenco tonearm specifications and the recommended cartridge weight and stylus pressure and overhang limits.    Offhand, I would say an audio-technica cartridge and stylus can serve as a replacement.  I think I saw some posters on this brand at the Audiophile shop at MCS.  Also, if this TT is belt-driven see if you can replace the belt with an exact replacement or a decent one.  Make sure the belt has an even surface and homogenously thick.  Uneven surface will induce wow and flutter.   Thin belts will increase rumble noise.
