My Singapore Trip! Many DVDS!
« on: Nov 04, 2005 at 10:30 AM »
;D I am so happy right now. I just came from SIngapore with my family and bought a ton full of DVDs. Some were very expensive. I'll convert the prices to Php so that you guys can see how much I bought the DVD for.

I finnally got Funny Girl (1968) which I bought in HMV for Php 1,584
I bought Call Me Madam (1953) which I also bouth in HMV for Php 1,112
I bought A Chorus Line (1985) which is a BRILLIANT movie, also in HMV, for Php 858
I bought an Oringal All That Jazz (1979) [I discared my "almost" last fake DVD]. I bought this in HMv for about Php 646.87

My Tita who lives in Sinagore took me to a place called "Carrefore" (If Thats the right spelling) All the DVDs there are priced around Php 165 and they are all Orignal!

The movie I bought there were:

 The Jazz Singer (1927)
 Million Dollar MErmaid (1953)
 The Road to Utopia (1946)
The Belles of St. Mary (1946)
 The Great Ziegfield (1936)
 The Mighty Wind (2003)
and much much more...I'll right them up later on!

Meaning? CLASSICS?
In HMV many DVDs are up to date and classics can be found too. In a place I was taken called "Carrefore" most of the DVDs were classics but there were many up to date ones as well.  ;D

;D Your Funny Girl is mahal! Here, when I got mine 2 years ago, it was only P550 (in amaray with inserts) then it dropped to the current P375.

hello! i don't actually suggest that you buy your dvds in Sing because of the high price tags. got some HTF 2-discs dvds for twice the price years ago.

correct me if i am wrong but the following titles were never released in R1. would you like to share what region codes would these dvds have?
- The Belles of St. Mary
 - The Jazz Singer (1927)
 - Million Dollar Mermaid

True. Although there extensive R1 titles here, most of my dvd's are bought online.  Much cheaper.

we all have been waiting for The African Queen and The Jazz Singer R1 releases to complete our AFI 100 Movies list so our appetite would welcome any news.

scans of the dvd artworks would do us good.

Singapore is a DVD shopper's paradise. Although prices can be a bit on the expensive side. Also, they have banned titles such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Seven, for example. I discovered a newly opened small store on the 3rd Level of Suntec City Mall. They have a good selection of Region 1 titles that are well-priced.

Not banned but few copies only. I saw it previously at Blue Max.

I don't think The African Queen in Carrefour is in R1.  It says DVD-5 and NTSC 3 at the back; and it's selling at only P160 (S$5).
