minor correction, 37 inches are the lowest 1080p lcd's around. they are exceedingly rare locally ( but common  in other countires)

thanks for the clarification...  :D

....i think they will not release 32inchers with 1080p na rin 'coz it wouldnt be so noticable.  ???

they will... eventually...
for the average user and mostly on regular shows and movies.. nah... hard to see diff...
for console and especially pc usage, big difference..

some 32 inches from china and taiwan already can output "equivalent" to 1080p resolutions when used with the vga input.. unfortunately the other inputs still churn out 720/768p

you'd only be able to find them from the grey market.. those with 1080p

i was offered once for a vito 37 inch for about 70-80k

i talked of it a bit here

Are you talking about full HD(1080p)? If not I suggest you visit Anson's main branch in Makati.. I got a very good deal on a Sharp Aquos LC-37BX5M. The promo is 140k with free 29" Sharp Aphrody and a 30gb Ipod video... but I paid in cash so I got it at 118k... and I came home a very happy man. :)

How do I know if it is  a newer gen? What's the difference with the older gen 30gb Ipod videos?

quoted from apple website:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61688

"Fifth Generation iPod (Late 2006) (also known as iPod with video)

You can distinguish the Fifth Generation iPod (Late 2006) from the original Fifth Generation iPod by the last three digits of the serial number. The Fifth Generation iPod (Late 2006) serial number's last three digits will be one of the following: V9K, V9P, V9M, V9R, V9L, V9N, V9Q, V9S, WU9, WUA, WUB, and WUC. "

Oh yes, I've seen those.  Personally though, I haven't seen a model in Ansons (Sharp, Philips, Hitachi, Toshiba) that matched the Samsung R71, side by side (except the Bravias w/c are expensive  ;D ).  Kainis lang bcoz the R71 don't have 36 or 37".  The price jump to 40's is too high, and a slightly smaller one would just be right for me (size and price) at a viewing of 2.5m.

I noticed this too. I use my LCD exclusively for DVD viewing and the screen flicker usually happens when there's a transition between bright and dark scenes. It's a feature called DYNAMIC DIMMING built in to the R7 line of LCD's.

There are two ways to disable this feature.

1. Select movie mode. Under movie mode, dynamic dimming and DNie are both disabled. All other picture modes have dynamic dimming and DNie on.

2. Permanently disabling dynamic dimming via the service menu.

On your remote press "Power Off - Info - Menu - Mute - Power On"
(If You can't get it to work try doing it slower)
Your TV should TURN on with lots of purple Menu options if you did it right.
Now, Select Option 2 in the menu and press enter on your remote.
Press down untill you reach "Dynamic Dimming" and press right until it goes to OFF. Then just press the EXIT button on your remote to finalise the setting and finally turn your TV off then back on.

I disabled mine via the service menu since I want the option to use Custom mode without the screen flicker.

Is this also applicable to the S71 model? I also notice flickering when watching DVDs and it's kinda annoying. Thanks

There's no "dynamic dimming" on the S71 model. Sa R71 model lang meron nito. I don't experience any flickering on my S71.

Ok found it.

On standby mode...just press info, menu, mute, power buttons on the remote one at a time...if successful you will be taken to the service menu...go to option block...a sub menu will appear...go to dynamic dimming & change on to off... then press power button to reset.....everything goes back to factory defaults...so kailagan i-adjust mo ulit mga settings mo...try mo lang...kung minsan di makuha in one pressing...but be careful once in the service menu...baka may mabago ka lalong magka-problema display mo...and void ang warranty if samsung finds out na nagalaw yung service menu...goodluck!
