i just bought a new dvd player and i can personally vouch that the pioneer 656a AND the phillips 5500s both have DTS decoders built in.

both can play mpeg4 files and SACD cds. but only the pioneer can play dvd-audio discs.

hope that helps.  ;)

the phillips is 5,990pesos (i think) while the pioneer 656a is 7,990. (i know... it's a bit pricey.)

nope... unless the player only has a digital pass-thru... you can usually tell by checking the words under the DTS logo in the player's fascia. if it says:

"surround" = with decoder (you can get DTS output from analog)

"digital out" = no decoder (you'll need a reciever with digital inputs to access DTS)

Speakers are analog. No such thing as digital speakers.

Most articles on the internet and in magazines tend to state that DTS or DD processing should be a job best done by a receiver....but I think my Denon 2900 has a built in decoder....

The word digital that is attached to the speakers from logitech pertains more to the surround sound processor that it uses rather than the technology the speakers use coz I think  ;) av_phile1 is right on this one speakers are analog and not digital.......unless somebody has a different opinion ???

yeah... av is right... strictly speaking, all speakers are "analog".

there's the rub, kasi those logitech speakers are not really just speakers, they have built in decoders as well..i guess when i said  digital speakers,i meant not the "literal speakers"... :)
