This thread was very helpful - the deciding factor why I should buy Xenon.

Sure Nextbase is just P4,500 sa Nintendo sa Virra Mall - pero 6 months warranty at yung service center ay yung shop na binilhan mismo - Orange goes for P5,000 so is SAST - pero these are my reasons why Xenon won -

1 year warranty and an existing service center
(you can't beat that)
P5,990 lang sa Abenson Robinson's Galleria
(a beat pricey pero there's comfort in buying from a reputable store)
Supports Letterbox, Widescreen, and Pan & Scan
(some, kailangan i-zoom para matanggal ang letterbox)
Plays PAL and all the P-DVD's
(bought withe me an AKIRA R1, Full Metal Jacket R3, PAL na MIB2, Matrix na P-disk all regions, even that P-DVD episode 2 that won't play in my dad's generic (Yasaki) - walang sablay - nice audio when jacked up to my VCD compo.

My only beef is the remote control, nasanay na kasi ako na yung enter nasa gitna ng mga control arrows - in this one kailangan mo pang pindutin yung play

Overall - I'm a happy MOFO - let's just hope this one does'nt conk out.

Adding to Reinardian's evaluation:

We naman, tested the Pal to NTSC conversion of the Xenon displayed on a NTSC Toshiba tv and it was superior to the Pal output of a Pioneer DVD player
displayed on a Panasonic Multi System TV. The Pal
output of the Pioneer showed flickering on the Panasonic whereas the conversion to NTSC of the
Xenon had no flicker.

As noted though in other threads in the generic
China made DVD players, the audio level output
of the China mades are lower in volume or loudness
compared to the Japan branded players. We had to
adjust the volume level of the Toshiba to compensate
for the lower sound level of the Xenon as compared
to the Pioneer.

People!
I have a XENON DVD Player and its good!
But i have a question;
Xenon has DD/DTS decoder, right?
My XENON now connected to a Digital Surround Pro-logic amp.
Do i have to buy a DD/DTS AV receiver or my existing pro-logic amp is okay.....?
Thanks!

Hi @tomicZen,

If that is the Xenon 810, yes it has DD/DTS decoding.
Therefore you don't need a DD/DTS AV receiver just in
order to get the decoded DD/DTS signals per channel.
However if your object is to get louder volumes,
conveniences which the AV receiver could provide etc,
having the AV receiver would be nice but is just optional
if the object is to reproduce the DD/DTS signals.

The resultant set up with your Xenon is to connect
any type of amplifiers (no need for any decoding or pro
logic feature) to each of the designated outputs
from it, front L+R, Center, Sub and Rear L+R, note that
this is a 5.1 DD/DTS setup as iyan iyong available outputs of the Xenon. Na decode na ng Xenon so each
of those outputs would already have the signal for that
channel for amplification. Malaking tipid in short in being
able to get DD/DTS sound with ordinary amplifiers. You
would be using the master control volume of the Xenon
and the test tone for set up of all the channels.

I am convinced, Xenon na nga, value for money.

Hope that helps.

Just saw a Xenon PAL to NTSC converter (PN-101), composite and component video input. P 690.00 at SM City North EDSA, SM Appliances Center Lower Ground.

So to those who have a problem regarding video system, you can now play/view your PAL DVDs to a dedicated NTSC TV. I think this is a good grab for its quite cheap.

Mod: kindly post this to appropriate topic. Thanks

wow... napaka mura nito... but i think this is just an analog model... you have to make sure compatible with your tv set since they have 50 and 60 hz dependencies with ntsc tv sets... i think

nevertheless, mura pa rin talaga siya !

Hello All!
I wonder: paano ginagamit ito (pa to ntsc converter)?
Does some body with a  xenon player needs it?

No, necessary lang yun pag walang internal/on-board Pal to NTSC system converter yung DVD player mo or any video player.

AFAIK, your Xenon DVD has the capability of converting video system to your TV; a Pal DVD can now be viewed smoothly to a dedicated NTSC TV and/or vice versa.

Hello all,

I saw a Xenon 810 and another model Xenon 710, at SM Mega appliance.  Both are slim types but have different panel layouts.  The 710 is cheaper at around PHP 5,3XX.  I asked the salesperson what the differences are and he was nice enough to show the units to me.  The fronts have almost the same function buttons.  The displays are at almost the same location (not sure what kind of display).

At the back, one thing I noticed on the 710 is the presence of dedicated L and R audio output jacks which is not present in the 810.  Both have the 5.1 channel outputs (Front L/R, Rear L/R, C, and SW), component out (3 jacks), S-video, composite, RF, and optical out.  The salesperson mentioned that the 710 is not multi-region, only R3 ???, although I have doubts.

Are the dedicated L and R audio output jacks necessary?  I wonder why the more expensive 810 does not have it!

Can someone please advise?  Especially to the owners of the 810, how do you connect to your audio system?  Which jacks will you use to connect to a 2 channel audio system? ::)

Thanks,
dB

I just connect it to my  Front L and R outputs. Then use the downmix feature of the xenon to a virtual surround sound.

810 ---> with on-board DTS decoder
710 ---> will process DTS through Digital Outputs (Optical or Coaxial).

The additional L/R Analog audio outs are the same with the Front Left and Front Right, no difference, it was just added for additional stereo audio output in case you want to connect it with your receiver/amplifier aside from the 5.1 analog out.

If you configure the menu of  your dvd player for its speaker set-up either Stereo, virtual surround sound or 5.1 mode; the audio sound/output of the added stereo out will be exactly the same as the Front Right and Front Left of the 5.1 analog out.

I've read a lot about different DVD players not playing some discs. Sa pirated discs lang ba may problema or pati sa Original DVDs? I'm thinking of ordering some DVDs online and sayang kung hindi rin mag-play. Ayoko sana mag risk kasi hindi na pwede ibalik.  Multi-region na ang player ko and pwede mag play ng Pal and NTSC.

Hi Munch,

Players not being able to play or read discs are not
confined to p_discs. There are such other things
as original discs with RCE, defects etc. Recently, we tested a R-1 Narada discs which the Xenon D810 refused to play while it played on a Pioneer player. The Narada disc did contain a warning that it might not be compatible with certain players due to its looping menu
feature. In the States, several discs ordered from Disney arrived damaged and were duly returned.

My 2 cents,
Roadster

Eversince I got my Xenon, I've played my share of original R1 and r3 discs as well as pdiscs, but I haven't encountered any problems so far.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I guess I should really avoid p_discs and stick to original discs. I just recently borrowed 2 p_discs from my friend and both didn't play.
Anyway, they're the only 2 discs that didn't play on my Xenon so far so I'm quite satisfied. Thanks again!

Borrowed my dad's P-Disk na We were soldiers and scorpion king and it had a hard time reading it. Smooth sailing naman sa other P-disk and R1s and R3s.

And still doing fine for 4 years.

An urban legend so you won't buy too much p-discs = anyways, I checked it on my dad's player and weird - nahihirapan na rin siyang basahin (pioneer dvd compo) although we watched we were soldiers dun sa compo na iyon before... it's the disc - whew.

hi!

I think Xenon 810 and Nextbase are the best DVD players in the market today (for generics, as they say).  The price difference between the two maybe attributed to the features of Xenon, which indeed has a DTS decoder and the One(1) year warranty provided by Pioneer.

For Nextbase,  I've tried about 34 p**disk on this player and guess what... no read failure!

I'm not sure if it's the player or the quality(meron ba) of the p**disk.   :)
