Anyone using these Pioneer players on a Samsung LCD?  Is it possible to zoom a letterbox DVD to fill more of the screen?  What are the settings if on HDMI connection?  All the zooming I did on both the TV and Player didn't get rid of the black bars on the side...

If you're using HDMI and upscaling, you can't manipulate the aspect ratio. The original aspect ratio of the movie will be the one to be shown, plus the upscaling will create a thicker bottom black bar.

But with 480p-HDMI, you can use your TV's zoom function to get rid of the black bars, depending on the zoom capability of the TV.

Just got a DV-490V this evening from Ambassador Shangri-La. Last day of 0% offer 6 mos. to pay. Got it for P5990 or P900+/month. Decided to replace my Ganz Klar DVD Player already.

So how's the PQ upconverted with the W100?  Significant bang difference with upconversion?

I just switched from interlace to progressive scan and there is just a slight added brightness to the PQ. Can I upconvert with this set-up? My A/V does not have an HDMI port and my projector is about 12 ft away from the DVD player so I don't know if the feature is useful.

You'll need an HDMI to DVI cable from Jambam(plug ;D). This will allow you to upconvert thru HDMI using the 490V.  Medyo mahal ang cable at lengths around 25ft.  Another option would be to place the player as near as possible to your PJ using a shorter HDMI to DVI cable and then run a lengthy digital coax for audio.

I just do not know if the apparent and considerable PQ difference is worth the added cost versus component PQ. Otherwise component is enough since cables are much cheaper.  Please do update us when you do the "dip" to digital.

Thanks

I just got a 490V for P5,750 at Ambassador V-Mall.

Ang galing ng layer change nito: the transition is absolutely seamless --- may memory buffer na yata ngayon.

I wasn't able to detect any picture or sound interruption whatsoever on my layer break test disc, "The Corrs: Live at Lansdowne Road".
