Hi
From this thread, it suggests that Panels scale the pics to its native resolution. so it can upscale ? ( but only the dvd players upscale it better ? )
I recently got a W400. Im curious on how to enjoy a 1080p signal. Ive checked the net for answers ( quite lazy on this ) , asked the sony 'dizer, the service center installer, my friend who got a 42pv70 + denon setup. they all said that i need a 1080p dvd player and the tv "does not" upscale. so reading this thread took me back to square 1.
i got an old pioneer dv313 ht system. 480p. and thats what the sony displays when played, 480p.
Right now, im waiting for pioneer to launch its 1080p capable HTib. very soon says the manila supervisor. the current ones only scales to 1080i. ( yea, dv600 can do it + optics , but i have a buyer eyeing my old htib ). htib - the setup's for my bedroom. it would do. got an onkyo for the living room setup.
so whats really happening in my panel + htib setup regarding upscaling.
thanks
hi, your panel is a full hd screen, meaning its native resolution is 1920X1080. so it should accept 1080p material without upscaling provided you have the following players:
bluray player (ie. ps3, or any player from panasonic, samsung and sony)
hddvd player (ie. mostly toshiba, this format is now considered dead)
but if you have standard definition materials (ie dvds) then you need a dvd upscaler to play the sd content in upscaled 1080p glory. your panel is not the problem. its the choice of player and materials that you will use that will say whether you want 1080p output or not.
so to get "real" 1080p output for your screen then i suggest you invest in a ps3 (or any bluray or hddvd player for that matter), or as many are discovering now, hard disc based players like tvix and popcorn can also play downloaded p*****d 1080p materials.
but if you really want an htib that can upscale sd content to 1080p then you may have to wait. as far as i know, still no htib in this department.
