Hello guys,

I bought a onkyo tx-sr706 recently. My problem is that it can not detect dolby true hd and dts-hd ma. I am using sony bluray player bdp-s300 and has an updated firmware.

I use a ixos hdmi cable but not sure if it is 1.3 version. Does the cable version have something to do with it?

Please help. Thank you.

hdmi cable should be atleast 1.3a. but just some question, did you set your sony bluray to bitstream the signal to the 706. because before the 706 will do the hidef audio decoding it should get the bitstream of the audio signal, if the players audio ouput is set to lpcm, then what you will see in your 706 is multichannel.  :)

Hi iiinas,

I tried using the high-end hdmi cable with the brand name Kimble Kable with high speed 1.3v and still the same.

Yes i have set the blu-ray player to bitstream it to the 706 and still the same. Maybe i have to try other brand of blu-ray player.

thank you for replying.

Hi all!

I have an Onkyo 494.

Yesterday, the remote sensor suddenly stopped working. So now, neither the Onkyo remote, nor my Harmony 525 works with it. It's not a battery thing, have replaced the batteries of the Onkyo remote with new ones. Tapos the Harmony works with all other equipment (TV, dvd, WD).

The only thing new to my set-up is the WD. Di kaya pareho sila ng range or something? But shouldn't the consequence be that both will turn on at the same time etc? Very strange.  ???

Anyone ever experienced the same thing?

after trying my blu-ray player to other brand of avr, still it can not detect it. My sony bdp-s300 is the problem.

You are right. I have to set the audio setting to pcm and the onkyo will display multichannel. Maybe that is the best i could do than to buy another bluray player just to decode true hd and dts-hd.

120Vx5.5A = 660VA (or approx. 500W). di kaya medyo kapos ito for a 7.2 system?

Onkyo receivers MSRP has increased in the US significantly... I think this can be attributed to the "law of supply & demand". Because of recession, US distributors anticipated a slowdown in consumer spending kaya konti lang imports nila.. Would you imagine an Onkyo 806 before sold at $600+ went up as high as $1000+.. Kaya swerte ang umabot sa landed price na P36k sa paborito nating lahat sa seller dito... ;D sayang nga lang at hindi ako umabot... ;D

Hi guys! Maybe you can help me regarding my Onkyo TX-SR705. It's been with me for more than a year now, 1 1/2 years to the exact. Lately it's been acting up. It turns off as soon as it's turned on.

Reading the manual, it said that the amp protection has been activated. I followed the instruction by disconnecting the power cord, speaker cables and input sources and so on...I noticed that the amp turns on whenever the speaker cables are not connected but once i connect the speaker cables it shuts down again.

What seems to be the problem? Could it be that the onkyo 705 is having a difficult time driving my set of B&W speakers? (B&W 683 fronts, HTM61 center, 686 rear, ASW650 subs) or there is something wrong with the amp itself or connections? Do I need to upgrade my amp? Anybody? Thanks!

try disconnecting all the speaker wires then turn it on, if the problem persists there's something wrong with the AVR so have it checked.  Pag nawala, then as ABCmotorparts mentioned there's a shorting of wires in your speakers.
what?! are you talkin' to me!!!

The Amplifier works normally when speaker cables are disconnected but when i connect them back on thats when the amp protection activates. So it must be the wires then...my question now is what causes the wires to short? By the way, i'm using banana plugs.

Hi sir,

If you have a separate pair of speakers that you can test, it would really tone down the problem between the amp/receiver and the speaker/connection, in some cases impedance problem can also trigger the protection of the receiver.

Good luck sir, let us know what happens...

It happened to my avr TXDS838 (Auto Protect), and have it checked by the staff of Pioneer/BW/Onkyo at West Ave., and found out that they need to replace some IC's and resistor, cost was Php 5.5k, that was  3yrs ago,  And now the problem is, no display image on LCD, but power is in "ON". Weird is, it wasnt used for a long time, and now that problem occur when I switched it on.

Then most likely meron ngang shorted na wires. You may need to do some isolation to find out which wire or pair of wire/s are causing the short. Are you connecting all the speakers back at the same time? Try connecting one at a time to isolate which ones causing the short.

Ganda pa naman receiver mo saka speaker. hehehe  ;)
