i'm using an old pioneer dv-535K. and i'm playing an original gladiator dvd. i am not sure if this is progressive scan though. by the way, here's my set up.

dvd to onkyo via component video.
onkyo to tv via hdmi.

it says in the manual that

"For optimal video performance, thx recommends that video signals pass through the system without upconversion (e.g. component video input through to component video output)."

Instead of via component video, have you tried connecting the DVD player to the Onkyo via HDMI but setting the input setting at 480i? Then from the Onkyo to the TV via HDMI also. That might do the trick.

Ah, yes, the old pioneer player will not have HDMI. Try component video from player to Onkyo, then HDMI from Onkyo to the TV, and Monitor Out setting to HDMI.

my understanding of the reco is that the signal going into the onkyo should be without upconversion meaning 480i not even p, because doing a 480p means the signal has been through deinterlacing already. but looking at the net, it seems the 535 is not a progressive scan capable player. so it should be pumping out 480i signals.

can you try the 1080i signal, since the 807 can upconvert to 1080i through component. and see how the picture looks.

It's possible. The 720p and 1080p mkv and other HD files are closer in quality (in fact sometimes indistinguishable from) to blu-ray than DVD. DVD images will not as look as good.

hi guys,

just got my onkyo tx-nr807! i'm reading the manual and it says

"don't connect more than one cable to each speaker terminal. doing so may damage the a/v receiver"

help!

Bi-wire ata tawag dyan... pwede yan sa AVR mo. +/- pa ring yong e connect mo sa AVR mo then sa speaker HF (+/-) and LF (+/-)

I assume ganito wire mo http://www.tm3connections.com/productimages/display/SS-image-2009-11-15-4afffd3f58be6.jpg

im using a Onkyo 607, mas maganda pa rin blu-ray syempre, pero to maximize the DVD,  its recommended to use DVD players with upscaling capabilities, then connecting it via HDMI

LG LH35 TV, Onkyo 307 reciever, LG BD 307 Blu ray player, Wharfes 9.4 for fronts and Wharfe CS9 for center. But I can't complain about the performance... meet my new toys...

Salamat pare. Oo nga eh, thinking of having something under para tumaas ng konti yung TV.

Will think of something to do medyo eye sore nga siya eh.

Thanks again.

Thanks. Di pa kasi ako makapag wall mount kasi we just rent our place and Idont want to riun the walls baka magalit ang may ari hehe.

Saving the wall mount till we settle on something on our own.

Good for you ShogdGreat. The TV is great for its price. Onkyo reciever is at PhP15300 cash. Plus 10% for 6 months and plus 15% for 12 months. I think sir Vic gives the same prices.

Onkyo 607 Calibration dilemma
« Reply #1316 on: Mar 01, 2010 at 11:33 PM »
Hi Guys!
I need your expertise on calibrating my 607.
My Setup: ts-xr607, Polk Audio TSi200(Bi-Amp),TSi100,CS10,PSW110

My current settings(By Audessy+min adjustments)
Speaker Config : Sub = Yes, Front = 40hz, Center = 40hz, Surround = 40hz, LPF = 80hz
Speaker Distance (ft): Sub = 10, L/R = 9, Center = 9, Surround L/R= 4
Level Calibration : Sub = -15db, L/R = -6db, Center = -8db, Surround L/R= -8db

Is there something wrong with my settings?
The bass doesn't work when playing audio cd using Pure Direct and other presets.
When watching  movies , i need to crank the volume to 45 to get descent bass..

Thanks!

yes you can use banana plugs to terminate the speaker ends of your speakers as long as it will fit the terminals of your amp and speakers properly.  ;)

i think the pure direct will only make use of your 2 ch. speakers. left and right speakers only.

try to crank-up the bass and treble adjustment.
