Hi all,

Makikisali lang po, 606 user here. Very satisfied with its over all performance paired with wharfedale 10. Quick question lang po kung ano pwedeng workaround para lumakas yung center speaker ko specially during dialogues. Napansin ko kasi na parang na-oover ride ng DTS settings yung A/V settings ko.

Please advise. TIA

madalas po kase eh familiarity sa features ng receiver and nagiging isyu but does not mean yung Onkyo receiver mismo ang may problema. May mag features kase na pag baguhan sa gamit eh di agad makap ng may ari kaya di agad maayos ang performance.

amen!  buti na lang nandito si brader pip! :D naalala ko nung first time ko mag setup/mangapa, barubal talaga. haha!!

that remote control is programmable and can work as a universal remote for all devices you have like dvd players, cd players, TV irregardless of model and make, may codes naman that you can input when you try to program differnt devices to be controlled by the Onkyo 606 remote. That's why you need to press the correct button in controlling the devices, when you have programmed a dvd player, you press dvd, when you program a tv, you press tv and so on.

the mic is called the Audyssey mic. Thats your ticket to calibrating your whole system and function based on the surrounding enviroment and its corresponding acoustic properties. The Audyssey calibration optimizes your system based on REFERENCE setting. Your is capable of doing Multeq calibration that allows you to set the mic to 6 different postions. There are times though that after calibration, the resulting paramaters will not suite your liking, thus you will adjust accordingly. Usual adjustments are done on the level calibrations( simply put is more like the volume contriol of each speaker channel, speaker cross over setting( simply put is determining whether your speaker is being set to large or smalland ensure LFE's are directed to the subwoofer), LPF of the LFE ( low pass filter of the subwoofer-sorry di ko na masimplify yung LPF eh).

I read somewhere about the HDMI issue of the 608. Is this issue particular only to units released in the US? or is this resolved already? thanks.

I'm planning to upgrade my avr to a 9.1.  I'm contemplating on getting a 1007 or 1008. I've read  in other forums regarding 1008 being a downgrade of 1007 but one thing that keeps me want the 1008 is its ability to use both front width and height while the 1007 can use only either front wide OR height.  Another thing is that their calibration systems are different, the 1007 being an audyssey multieq XT and 1008 being multieq only.  If I'll just base my choice on these 2 aspects, which of the 2 would be a better choice?  My current AVR is an onkyo 806 using multieq and I am using an emotiva XPA-3 for my fronts.  Personally I'm gearing towards 1008 because of the front height and width(Sulit ba ang ganitong configuration?) but I have not experienced listening to such avr with that kind of capability.  Thanks for your inputs!

not an experts input but may be of help anyway so im giving it a shot.

If I were to choose, id choose the one that has better Audyssey calibration feature. Multeq XT is definitely better that Mult EQ becasue the XT allows more mic positioning and flexibility. The fornt wide and front height is certainly a huge come on but even the Audyssey portal mentioned that the best between the two is the front wide giving the Audyssey DSX feature. The front wide provides a more expansive sound and creates an aura of a larger viewing area. The front height gives an added extension of the front surround effect but not as significant as the front wide. IMO, running them at the same time would be of most benifit if the room is faily larger and the speakers would be of the same series and lineage. Apart from these things, the 1007 is THX Ultra 2 cerified while the 1008 is only select 2 certified, as to how significant it is apart from the prestige it gives, I can comment more as I think the difference is better explained technically, which Im not capable of.

The 3D capability would matter much if you have 3d capable tv or PJ and 3d encrypted movie.

if you dont have a grip yet of how to calibrate using the audyssey mic and calibration procedure, the cross over setting is recommended(THX recommendation) to be at 80hz for the front, center and surround speakers. The subwoofer LPF setting is recommened at 120Hz.

the audyssey calibration allows you to get your system calibrated according to the surrounding environment and exisiting room acoustic property. this may sound so rocket science for firts timer but when you get a better grip of how it is, its easy actually. Please browse through yuor manual first and post back items you have question about.

Bro Onkyo606 has given a good explanation. Further to that, though 1008 can do both front width and height at the same time, you will lose out the surround back (L&R) channels. Overall, some of 1008 specs are indeed downgraded from the 1007, hence the cheaper price. So if you are aftering the 3D feature, need the Front Height + Front Wide & don't mind/will not use those "downgraded specs" then 1008 is indeed a good option.

Planning to buy one of the new Onkyos in mid 2011 (right now, either the 508 or the 608, to upgrade my 494). Pero parang nakaka-intimidate ang mga bagong models - feels too complicated to set up (based on recent exchanges on this thread which i can barely understand hehe). Buti pa yung 494 ko, halos plug and play lang  ;D

I got the onkyo 508.. i plugged 10.1 spearkers.. okay lang naman yun dba?.. sa front apat ang nakakabit dalawa dalawa... mas malakas and okay yung sounds at risk ba ang receiver ko pag ganun?...
