good morning...

just a few questions and an observation with our onkyo s5305 system:

-at times there would be a slight audio drop while watching a blu-ray movie (ps3), cguro mga 1 sec lang tapos everything goes back to normal, does not happen on every movie naman. what causes this?

-there is a listening mode called "direct" per description of the manual it says:

"audio from the input source is output without surround sound processing"

does this mean that this mode is well as close to how the audio was meant to be heard?

I'm not sure with Onkyo receivers, but with other brands "Direct" is normally used for 2 channel sources. It will bypass surround processing, so that audio is only output as Left/Right channel information. Some brands still do bass management in direct mode however, while others don't.

I know that this isn't an AVR, but I'd like to say that I'm impressed with the Onkyo A-5VL Integrated Amplifier. It's an awesome little amp for the price that's both sonically refined and environmentally sound. :)

The matching C-S5VL SACD Player is also quite good, by the way.

come check out these products at the shop. we have it hooked up to a pair of polk lsi 7 bookshelves and the b&w cm1. :)

I wonder how long they can continue bringing down prices while adding to the feature set, without switching to chip amps. So far, all the units from the 508/509 up still run discrete circuitry. :)

Onkyo 608 does not have a filter resolution for subwoofer/s.

MultEQ comparison chart
Features                                     MultEQ XT32       MultEQ XT    MultEQ      2EQ
Filter resolution (satellites)                512x                 16x         2x       x
Filter resolution (subwoofer)                512x                128x        128x      N/A
Number of Measurement Positions          8*                   8*          6       3
Adaptive Low Frequency Correction      Yes                  Yes        Yes      N/A
Crossover, Polarity, Delays, Levels         Yes                  Yes        Yes      Yes

* Up to 32 measurement positions with MultEQ Pro.

Sana pala I just waited and purchased at least the 708 para naka MultEQ man lang.

Now the question is whether to upgrade to an Onkyo receiver with higher Audyssey EQ or purchase an SVS-EQ1?

Any idea/opinion on this?

Sir jao, just my opinion, either you go with a multieq/multieqxt with svseq1
or get an av receiver with multieqxt32. The xt32 already has a subeq ht. Either way I think both would entail giving out the same amount of money. I went with the xt32 route.

Or you can do a lateral move and try the Denon 1911 with MultEQ. But honestly if you keep on worrying about what your gear doesn't do, you'll never be happy.

Actually sir, what I'm after is the quality of the bass in my ht set-up since I don't have a dedicated HT room. I placed a few bass corner traps and absorbing panels but of course it is not enough given the location of my HT which is in a sala. Since 608 only has 2EQ, bass coming out from my system is not really "fully" calibrated so to speak. Since I want to have the sub calibrated together with my system and I'm dead on getting a sub-eq1 anyway , I'm just trying to figure out which route to take in order to save some funds... to get an avr with sub-eq integrated already or go the avr plus eq1 route. I would just like to maximize what I already have, ika-nga ni kagawad iiinas.  ;D. Are you not curious to know and to listen to your system's full potential? I know I am... :)

Bro Jao, swak ang advice ni Conan.  :)
nga lang pag sanay ka sa onkyo, baka manibago ka sa denon.  medyo laid back ang tunog nito compared to your onkyo.
i suggest getting a new receiver.  atleast, yung mapagbentahan ng current receiver mo konting dagdag nalang, upgraded pa ang receiver  :D

IMO malaki ang difference ng MultEQ sa 2eq  :)

I had a Denon 1611 that had Audyssey MultEQ for two days. Though my sub now is different than what I had then so I can't make a direct comparison and I returned the Denon because the power was weak for my then JBL speakers which are not as sensitive as my current Klipsch speakers. I'm actually happy with the way my system sounds now so no I'm not curious.  :)

I guess that'd be subjective. It's best if you can head to a shop where you can compare them. I think MLY/AVShop has these units available for demo.

For me: When used with entry level speakers and moderate volumes in typical spaces, they are very close (benign loads). However, the increased current capacity of the 608's power section could be heard when using hard to drive speakers, and/or listening at elevated levels in a bigger room.

Please describe the sound characteristics that makes you "unhappy" with the sound of your speakers. My Klipsch Reference II speakers matched with the Onkyo 608 results in a slightly forward sound that has a balance of both warmth and crisp highs.
