Hi guys...,

How to appear trueHD in onkyo receiver? it only apprears in my ps3 when i press "select" while watching BD movies but not in my receiver.
My set up is 5.1 and the ps3 audio settings is set to automatic via HDMI.

try to set your ps3 to bitstream, that should do it.

imo, parang mas maganda pa rin yung 608. THX certified na and w/ banana plug inputs. i think yung plus lang ng 509 is yung network capability.

Kung ako tatanungin, mas pipiliin ko yung may network capability kaysa sa may banana plug inputs. Bnana plug or not, same speakers, same sound.  ;D

Pero ung usefulness ng having to access your network is priceless hehe!  :D

And for me, THX is just a badge, nothing useful, but that's just me.

Hey dude!

I have a 509 and it has Banana Plug terminals too.
You just have to remove the safety covers put by Onkyo EU.

Another difference to note is that 608 has 7.1 audio while the 509 has 5.1.
I was considering the 608 too, but when I heard of the 509 being available already, and I have a small HT area lang naman, I went for the 509.
I am currently a very happy 509 user.

I'll consider upgrading again, after I've upgraded to a bigger HT area.
Btw, the Network feature is good because I can access my Audio on the Etrayz DLNA server and I can use my iPhone as a remote control.

mga sir, may nais lang sana ako isangguni. meron akong onkyo ht-rc160. ang problema ko is namamatay yung connection between my receiver and hdtv. mawawala for a while yung display sa hdtv (black screen) then after a few seconds, babalik yung display and everything is back to normal. hassle sa panonood kasi nakakabitin lalo na pag maganda na yung scene. ang nabago lang naman sa setup ko is i replaced my fronts with an aaudio tritower floorstander. nung euros floor standers pa gamit ko, di ko naman to na-experience. any help would be greatly appreciated... :(

Try to isolate the video dropout issue by replacing the hdmi cable. Pag ganun pa rin problema, defect yan ng unit mo.

kawawa naman si tritower nasisi pa  :'(  handshake issue yan brader:

Quote
HDMI Handshake Problems
One common problem people experience with HDMI is handshake failure. Sometimes, this is because the HDTV is an older, DVI-based model without HDCP support. But in other cases, there's an easy fix -- unplug your components and power cycle your system. This may reset the authentication cycle and restore your connection.

Can anyone describe the difference between upscaling capabilities of older onkyo avrs compared to the 2011 models? I'm really curious about the 4k upscaling, night and day ba ang difference?

@ sir nogie

salamat din sa suggestion. i don't think it's the hdmi cable though as i've used the same cable before and it works fine with the previous setup. baka kelangan ko nga lang i-power cycle yung system. :)

I'm not 100% sure about this but I think that the current displays can't take advantage of the new upscaling chip of the Onkyo since they are only up to 1080P.

Very few pa ang actual 4k displays sa CE market, and there are even fewer 4k 3D ones (mostly high-end projectors and some obscenely-expensive flat panels). Thus, most TVs won't take advantage of the 4k output. Native 4k material is very expensive to begin with.

So there's no real advantage for the 4K video for now. Maybe after 5 years, and by then you are obliged to upgrade again...  ;D

Brader try mo to...

I posted this also sa HTPC thread few months back but did a little editing  ;D

BTW, anong video card nang Dell HTPC mo?

I was able to play my 1080p with DTS-HD mkv's smoothly through Windows Media Player  ;D

Here's what I did. First I uninstalled all the codecs (ffdshow, CoreAVC, etc.), all the media players(PDVD10, TMT3, MPC-HC). Then restarted my PC. Then I downloaded and installed Shark007 codec pack and x64 components since I'm using Win7 x64 OS from http://shark007.net/

In the Shark007 application I just ticked(checked) Shark007 SUGGESTED settings. Then viola!!! My Animusic mkv file played smoothly with DTS-HD output  ;D

Hope this will help you guys too in bitstreaming HD audio with smooth playback.

need advice/help guys. We are currently on the final stages of our Home theater system building in our house. The problem is that I recently talked with the one incharge of setting up and he told me the he placed a TXSR-608 with a 7.1 BOSE speaker system for the AV room and 2 BOSE speaker system for the other rooms. This receiver was for all the speakers that we placed for other parts of the house like in the living room, dining room, etc. And he said that he would make it ipod ready by placing a 3.5mm jack. Checked the Onkyo website and found out that this model is not network/internet ready (don't know the proper term).

Anyways, I opting to change this receiver to ones which are network ready so that i could use my ipod as a remote or stream movies/music to it with out any cables. Should i stick to this receiver and look for a BDplayer/TV which has a bluetooth capability? The scenario that I want is that if ever I want to change the music while Im in the dining room, I don't have to go back to the av room to change it. I don't have an idea on these stuff since its my first time to setup. What should i choose to replace the receiver? Please help me. Thanks..:)
