Comparing the List Prices (MSRP) in Japan:

The 809 is between the 1010 and the 2010
The 1009 is about the same as the 3010
The 5009 has no equivalent model from Yamaha (yet).

Yap sa japan its in between the a1010 and a2010, the 1009 is sale na in japan. Ok sana kumuha sa japan, but the fm channel kasi is until 89.9 lang haha... pero usually they will release the new models there first kesa sa us. same as with tv's, camera's, and other  stuff.

some models ng onkyo hindi na nila nilabas dun, like yung entry levels

Kung based on MSRP, kapantay nga 809 ang aventage 1010 (amazon, $1099).  It's a good thing that sellers sell the 809 cheaper than the 1010.

dont go for a 1009, not much of a difference with 809 pero laki ng difference sa cost, same din naman na MultEQ XT, you wouldnt be dissapointed with the 809, if you get it and your not happy with it, I will give my subwoofer to you for free, provided you can carry it yourself hahahaha, but seriously, for the amount you will pay, you will never go wrong with the 809, this will probably be the only receiver that would last more than half a year with me, i will only upgrade if its a 3009 or 5009.

Tama si sir onkyo, difference between 809 & 1009 will only matter if you have 9 set of speakers (809 is 7.2 while 1009 is 9.2). Mas malaki nga ang difference ng 808 vs. 1008 kasi bukod sa 9 channels yong isa wala pa isf feature yong 808 ( i like the ISF night setting of 1008 & 3008). It is wrong to say that one receiver brand is better over the other. I have tried all the mainstream brand of avrs, each brand has its own characteristics, strength & weaknesses. Nasa preference na lang talaga....at para sa akin Onkyo pa rin ang aking pinaka-Love na AVR.

Planning to buy the used-like new 3009 at Amazon but they have a policy not to give out the serial number before buying the unit.. Check ko sana if these are the units affected by reported defects by Onkyo..

might as well wait for the TX-NR1010/3010/5010 announcements, but those won't come until later this year

you might also wanna consider waiting for discounted pricing on 818 (which has XT32 + 9.2 processing as per preliminary reports) and pair it with external amps (nice transition to separates IMO) ;)

You have a point there in waiting for the prices of the 818 to go down. Mabilis naman bumaba prices ng avr ngayon. onkyo will also always be the first to release new models, i think kaya mabilis din bumaba price.

Now ko lang napansin ang post mo brader. FRS freight shipping can also do a checking of unit like power up to check id DOA kahit ala ka kamaganak sa US puwede na mag purchase ng hindi ka nag alala if DOA ung unit na nakuha mo before shipping sa pinas. Hope this can help those thus not have relatives to check the unit before shipping going to PH. Lahat ng AIR shipping ko 1 week lang ang inaabot and no delay i think 6x na akong nag papaship sa kanila.  ;D ;D

do take note na hindi "all-or-nothing" ang operation ng a/v receiver (and most other electronics). just because it powers on, doesn't mean automatically that all it's functions would work. possible na merong defective amp section or non-working i/o connections. these kind of issues don't manifest themselves unless you do a full test of the device by connecting speakers on all amp channels and connecting a/v sources to all relevant inputs, testing out the included accessories and miscellaneous functions as well.

whenever you import a unit yourself, do understand the risks you take and be prepared for the possibility that the unit may need servicing when it arrives here.

lemon units are rather rare but they are encountered from time to time. fortunately (in my experience at least) i have yet to receive a lemon and majority of other members have been lucky enough as well ;)
