I just got an Onkyo 809 to replace my 805. When doing the auto calibration, it instructs you to set the subwoofer level to 75db. It also displays the current SPL reading of the sub(s) in real time. Without doing any adjustments on the gain of my subs (because I have already set this correctly before), the reading is at 85-86db. When I proceeded with the auto calibration, the result was -10.5db to my subs. Using an SPL meter, the sub level is way below the level of the other speakers. I had to turn it up to 0db to get the bass level equal to the speakers.
Why is the actual bass output set too low? Is this normal?
I was thinking that if I follow the instructions and set my subs to 75db, it should set the level to approx. 0db. But I think the actual output would still be the same and remain a lot lower than the other speakers.
