Amazon's "Deal of the Day" . . .

Onkyo TX-NR818 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black)

US$ 649.00 only (approx. P29K)

definitely cheaper from local seller, but is it worth the risks ... shipping, warranty not honored locally, etc.

Whooaaahhh this is a great deal. :)

Whooaaahhh this is a great deal. :)

the price was just only for a day. ngayon bumalik na sa $799.

the 616 is a good deal at $319. add tax and shipping, it will get you around 18k landed. but check the local distributor first, maybe the difference is not that much especially when you take into account the warranty, step down transformer and the very long wait.

I prefer turning off the dynamic volume and EQ. For me mas maganda yung SQ. I just stick the with audyssey settings after calibrating gain levels using a SPL meter

^ inspect very closely, baka merong stray wire somewhere, not picked up by the vacuum cleaner, causing a short. also make sure that there's nothing wrong with the speakers that you're using.

if it still fails, bring it to a service center.

Hi, question on Onkyo TX NR626, I was looking for this AVR and about to purchase, I like this model since it has Wi-Fi Certified and built in Bluetooth. I will be using this mainly in the living room around 7x8 square meter.
However, it doesn't have AirPlay? How odd is that? Wireless but no AirPlay? Does this mean that I cannot stream music using iDevice via iTunes? Thanks for any feedback.

Yep bro afaik you'll need an airplay capable device. An apple TV or use an apple laptop connected to the AVR.

Yes I have a Mac mini, iPad mini, iPhones. So I think the bluetooth function is the only way,

since they've started integrating bluetooth connectivity into their products, perhaps they're pushing it over airplay as the preferred method when it comes to streaming music from mobile devices.

maybe they don't see much feasibility(licensing/implementation costs vs. customer perceived value) in giving it airplay capability due to apple's decline in market share. android users on the other hand have always enjoyed streaming music over wifi with the onkyo app.

but you're right, it is kinda odd (at the very least, for an apple user) that onkyo receivers never featured airplay, given that they are usually at the forefront when implementing new "buzzword" features on their products.

Yes, and the most interesting fact is that the TX NR626 has ethernet port. Anyways, the internet connectivity is mainly intended for in app music streaming.

My next question is, what brand there is in the market that offers Wifi and Airplay? i just don't feel the need of hooking up RJ 45 onto it, that offers the same value with NR626?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

these mainstream receivers below belong to the same price bracket as the 626 while featuring airplay:

Yamaha RX-V675
Pioneer VSX-1123-K
Denon AVR-X2000
Marantz NR1604
Harman Kardon AVR 1710
Sony STR-DN1040

from the above, only Sony has built-in wifi - the others require either a matching optional wifi dongle, or a wired connection to your router.

I guess Sony is not available locally. Been googling around and even the Sony center in trinoma doesn't have it. I guess i need to buy an Airport Express to utilize streaming.
Thanks again for the input. Or will find a way to run an RJ 45.  Medyo mahaba nga lang.

Sirs,

Does anyone of you have tx-nr1010? What can you say about this receiver?
I still cant decide whether I'll take this one or a pioneer avr like the elite sc-72, elite sc75 or the
sc-1323k, sc-1523k which has class d3 amplifier. I've also read that onkyo's tend to get hotter than pioneers and had hdmi problems with their previous models. Am planning to plug in polk rti a7's or a9's.
Inputs and feedbacks would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

^ about reliability, onkyo receivers have been generally good and have been running cooler since the XX09 series. IME, older models did run pretty hot but as long as they're well ventilated they don't present any issues.

as to whether you should pick an onkyo or a pioneer, do an audition and let your ears decide (personal preference will come into play here.) best if you could go to a shop that sells onkyo, pioneer, and polk audio so that you can audition the exact gear combo that you're considering. be sure to compare the features that you might use (i.e. room correction, listening modes, video upscaling, etc.)

mga sir ok lang kaya lagi may naka plug sa usb slot ng receiver?

i have a 5volt usb-fan placed on the top panel of the AVR to serve as an exhaust fan, very helpful on cooling the unit down,

currently using a samsung charger plug to power the 5v usb-fan seperately from the avr

i want to use the power of the usb slot on the avr para everytime on ang avr, mag rurun din ang fan.

will it harm the avr in any way?  :-\

I dont think so.  Maliit lang naman power kailangan ng USB fan..

I have a usb fan setup in that exact way. No worries nor issues whatsoever. Fan turns off when the avr is on standby.

Be very wary of aging or hard-to-start fans, they present a low resistance and require much higher currents to start spinning. Connecting these to USB ports may damage the power supply. Note that the processor and other critical chips rely on a very stable 5 volt supply. Masaya service center pag yan nasira...

I'd rather take the "charger" option.

my 2¢...

thanks sa inputs mga sir.

another option is ripping the usb wires out again and connect nalang sa power supply ng HTPC, sabay naman sila lagi ni onkyo ginagamit eh

para hindi OT, kaka service lang ng unit ko, US unit, and its not cheap :(
