sir dan, may benefit pa ba ang back-up dvd (iso's) o mkv's from PCH (480i) fed to 875 using reon? i mean comparing the 1080p/720p PQ from PCH alone vs the magic of 875?

I'll let you know as soon as I've tried. Di ko pa na kumpleto setup. I still need to format my hd.

pano yan chief?  meron ba yan sa 805?  ::)

Both 805 and 875 have the same manual. May exceptions lang on other features. Not sure if this is also done by 805. I'll check.

haven't fully read the 875's manual yet... but i have set-up it already... anyway, my question is,  i have a pioneer DVD player and Toshiba HDDVD player connected to the 875 via HDMI, it seems that at first start-up, my 875 couldn't detect the players even thou they're already on... (BTW, the panasonic TV is already turned on)... i have to re-start the 875 before it read or "finds" the players... anyway, is there something im missing?

thanks

in a nutshell, whats the difference between a 805 vs 875? aside from the price?

saw the tech comparison sa onkyo website.. pero understood just 60% of it..

IMHO... i think the main difference is the PQ due to its video upscaling chip and the way it upscales, component and hdmi.

Sirs, baka meronng parehong setup sa inyo.  I have the 875 and tried entering the codes for a panasonic tv (42pv70h sakin), pero none of the codes worked.  what i did temporarily was to use the learning functionality of the avr remote for the meantime.

According to the manual,
-10w/channel
-the 1080p HQV processor
-VLSC on all channels

IMhO, if your display isnt 1080p native, settle for the 805. I had to upgrade to a 1080p display (and junk my 720p display) to realize the Reon's potential.

Hi!  My 705 has arrived already and tried hooking my PS3 (via hdmi both audio and video).  I tried playing some Bluray discs mainly Eragon (DTS-MA) and TMNT (Dolby TrueHD) but it seems the receiver isn't displaying these formats in the display.  It just displays mulitchannel PCM.  Is the audio coming out of my speakers already in HD?  How can I make these formats appear in the receiver's display?  Tried reading and rereading the manual but I can't get any answers.  TIA  :)

the ps3 can only internally decode the new codecs and output it as multichannel pcm. its not the receiver's fault

yup......PS3 cannot send the HD audio formats via bitstream.   Internal decoding as eric had stated.

Some players which can send the audio formats via bitstream...

Panny BD30 and BD50

Sammy BD1400 and BD1500

Its a hardware limitation thats why PS3 cant send the new HD audio formats via bitstream.   In theory though, even if multichannel PCM appears in the receiver,     HD audio can still be had.  The only difference, decoding is done by the PS3, not on the receiver.

yup, i stand corrected (removed my post to avoid confusion hehe). it seems that even if you set the hdmi to bitstream it will only send  dd 5.1 .

Thanks sirs for the quick responses!  I believe that the decoding ability of the Onkyo AVR as compared to the PS3 is still more superior but then it's a shame I cannot utilize it in my set-up unless I buy a standalone BD player.  :-\

i believe the 705 can process multichannel pcm so you aren't really losing anything except for the hd logo ;)

I don't think meron study na much better ang decoding sa AVR compared sa PS3, after all, uncompressed PCM = uncompressed PCM hehe anyways i'm very satisfied sa PS3 + 606 combo  ;D

does this means that you can still enjoy HD audio when using PS3 with an HDMI equipped receiver pero walang DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD?

This might be OT but I'll try to ask anyway:

What speakers could be paired with Onkyo Receivers in general? Monitor Audio bronze series, wharfedales?

Sir, its under Source Setup/Name Edit.  You can input a 10-character name.  I think you also have to select Custom (instead of Default) on the Display option, also under Name Edit menu.

I'm using Dali Ikon with my ONKYO 705 and the sound is really great both for music and for movies (standard and blu-ray).   ;D ;D ;D
