Does it really matter?
« on: Jul 18, 2006 at 10:47 AM »
i'd just like to know if it is really important to use projection screen when use projectors or its just aesthethics

or it will really improve the brightness of the image. i'm currently using 4'x8' plywood painted with acrylic matte

white. i'm not that satisfied. but the good thing it just cost me less than 1k for the screen

any suggestions.

Yes, it does matter for the following reasons:

-uniformity of brightness
-accuracy of colors
-variable gain depending on model to suit your projector and environment
-smoothness of projected image
-more saturated colors and perceive contrast
- peace of mind when you buy from big screen providers

Yup it matters....  I built my own using "Blackout cloth" from Shell Canvas (Alabang Town Center).  Cost me about P3000 for everything (cloth, wood, staple gun, mounting)

Try putting white bond paper or small piece of Blackout cloth on your screen, then project on both that and your current screen at the same time, you should see if there is an improvement.  There is also special paint you can get if you want to paint your blackout cloth.

Here's my 123 inch DIY:

Yes it matters.  The projection screen has some special material which can improve contrast, brightness and sharpness of the projected image based on my experience.  Ang laki ng difference and it's worth it.  ;)
