« on: Aug 14, 2006 at 09:21 PM »
Hi!

I bought a Phillips DVP 3040K DVD/DIVX player.

I'm just wondering why sounds does not come when I am viewing AVI files on it?

Tried viewing said files on my PC first - no problem video and audio is OK.

Please help...

Thanks!

AVI is a fairly common file extension for video files. It is also commonly used as a file extension for divx files. You have to realize that there is no fixed standard on how to encode to divx so there is a wide variety of encoding options used on files coming from the internet. Standalone DVD players will handle files with audio encoded with MP3. If your DVD player has an onboard AC3 decoder, it will also handle files with AC3 encoded sound track as well. Other than these two formats, it will be hit and miss depending on your player. If you want to find out what audio format is used on your avi file you can use GSpot Codec Appliance http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
